Having been in the championship picture since his WWE main roster debut, Ethan Page finally won the Intercontinental Championship on the November 3 Raw episode.
Page challenged for Chad Gable’s gold on this week’s show, in the Barclay’s Center in New York.
The closing moments of the match saw Page counter an Ankle Lock by kicking Gable into an exposed turnbuckle. Page was able to capitalize following this, hitting the Ego-plex to become Intercontinental Champion.
“All Ego”s title win ended Chad Gable’s 91 day reign, with Gable having defeated the likes of Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix in televised championship matches.
With Ethan Page prevailing over Chad Gable, some fans have questioned why Page in particular was chosen to dethrone the former Olympian.
Finishing his story
Ethan Page has been in the Intercontinental Championship picture for almost his entire time on the main roster.
Having defeated Je’Von Evans on April 20 in his Raw debut match, Ethan Page scored a victory over then-Intercontinental Champion Penta in tag-team action on the May 4 episode, earning him a title match at the May 23 Saturday Night’s Main Event special.
Page was unsuccessful on this occasion, and also came up short in numerous title matches he competed in on WWE TV and at non-televised house shows.
Ethan Page defeating Chad Gable feels like a full-circle moment, with “All Ego” having pursued that one title for six months.
Following previous reports that WWE was very high on Page, it makes sense for them to test the waters with him as a singles champion.
Refreshing the title picture
Prior to Chad Gable winning the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam, Penta reigned with the gold for over 150 days, having won the championship from Dominik Mysterio in March.
With WWE having had babyface Intercontinental Champions for almost a year, the division has now had a shake-up, with a heel now holding the gold for the first time in ten months.
This dynamic change opens up the possibility for so many other stars to chase the gold, with it now making sense for the likes of Je’Von Evans to have personal feuds with the titleholder.
With a bad guy now on top, the scene has been set for an ultimate good guy to be crowned and elevated.
Moving on up
Since returning in January’s Royal Rumble, Chad Gable has spent his 2026 reminding fans exactly who he is.
After a memorable run in AAA which ended with the Match of the Year contender Mask vs Mask bout at Noche de Los Grandes, Chad Gable unmasked, dropping his Original El Grande Americano moniker.
Now, following an entertaining run as Intercontinental Champion, many fans have called for the star to be elevated to the main event picture.
Chad Gable has proven himself as one of WWE’s most exciting talents, and has shown that he can carry a division as its singles champion, so the former Olympian has more than earned a run at the top of the company.
