Over the past year, GUNTHER has raised his profile to even higher heights by becoming The Career Killer in WWE.
In a matter of months, GUNTHER has retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles in succession. However, his plans for WrestleMania 42 do not seem clear at this time.
With “The Ring General” not having announced plans for Mania, WWE could present any number of options for the former World Heavyweight Champion to pursue come “The Show of Shows” from Las Vegas.

7. Retiring Rey Mysterio
After retiring Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles, many fans have been wondering which legend could be next for GUNTHER.
More recently, GUNTHER defeated Dragon Lee by unmasking the luchador and putting him away with a sleeper on the March 2 edition of WWE Raw.
Following the way he won his last match, it would make sense if Rey Mysterio took offense to GUNTHER disrespecting another luchador.

6. Facing Multiple Legends In A Gauntlet Match
Back at WWE WrestleMania 25, Chris Jericho issued a challenge to several different legends to face him after disrespecting WWE Hall of Famers.
In a single night, Jericho defeated Jimmy Snuka, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in a Gauntlet Match.
Following in the footsteps of Jericho, GUNTHER could be the next current WWE star who can take on a group of legends.
After retiring three consecutive legends in one year, GUNTHER could face different retired stars or longtime veterans, which could include Jericho himself making his return at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.

5. Unmasking Los Americanos To Make A New Imperium
Looking at the WWE roster, Ludwig Kaiser has gone from the longtime stablemate of GUNTHER to playing the role of El Grande Americano.
Now leading his own faction, El Grande is working alongside Bravo and Rayo Americano in the Los Americanos stable.
It could be possible for GUNTHER to face the current El Grande and potentially try to unmask him to bring back Kaiser.

4. Beating Carmelo Hayes For The United States Championship
GUNTHER has held a lot of championship gold since signing with WWE in 2019, including two reigns as World Heavyweight Champion.
With being the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion and NXT UK Champion of all time, “The Ring General” could look to capture a title he has never held before.
As of late, Carmelo Hayes has established himself as a fighting champion with his current run with the United States Title.
Hayes having an open challenge at WrestleMania 42 could see GUNTHER accept and win the U.S. Title for the first time in his career.

3. Challenge Penta For The Intercontinental Championship
Speaking of championship gold, GUNTHER made history by holding the WWE Intercontinental Title for 666 days.
At WrestleMania 40, it was Sami Zayn, who ended GUNTHER’s epic reign with the gold.
Now two years later, GUNTHER could look to continue his reign by challenging the new champion in Penta.

2. Facing Oba Femi For The First Time
At WWE Royal Rumble 2026, Oba Femi made his main roster debut after a dominant run on the NXT brand.
Across nearly three years in NXT, Femi set the record for the longest reign as North American Champion and had two reigns as NXT Champion.
With how dominant he has been throughout his WWE career, “The Ruler” could make for a tough test for someone of the stature of GUNTHER.

1. Answering Brock Lesnar’s Open Challenge
On the February 23 episode of WWE Raw, Brock Lesnar made his return to the company and had Paul Heyman issue an open challenge for the WrestleMania 42 event.
With Lesnar being scheduled for multiple dates ahead of Mania, there could be any number of names on the WWE roster who could step up to the plate for “The Showcase of the Immortals.”
Considering his plans not being set for “The Show of Shows,” it feels like the perfect spot for GUNTHER to come and take down Brock in a first time ever meeting.
After reports of WWE wanting to do this match for years now, GUNTHER answering Lesnar’s open challenge could present one of the biggest bouts on the WrestleMania 42 card this April.
