While there is perpetual movement in professional wrestling, fans have proven time and again that they love a solid WWE homecoming story.

Whether it be veteran talent or those who never truly got a chance to shine, there are many names who could potentially re-sign with WWE.

Here are six former WWE stars that could potentially re-sign with the company.

6. Raj Dhesi (Jinder Mahal)

Former WWE star Jinder Mahal

The former Jinder Mahal didn’t take his release from WWE in April 2024 to mean the end of his career.

Rather he would continue his in-ring career under the name Raj Dhesi, re-introducing himself on the independent scene and making appearances for the likes MLW, GCW and even AAA.

Continuing to have a veteran presence as well as the ability to do more complex character work than he was previously given – Dhesi would be a great pick-up for WWE if he were to return.

With WWE President Nick Khan noting that on the top of Netflix’s priority list for international PLEs was India, a goal that they have “penciled in” for 2026 – 2027, we could see Dhesi return for a third run in the company.

5. Nic Nemeth

Another star who could follow in the footsteps of the recently returning Matt Cardona might be Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler during his time in WWE.

After receiving a warm reception during his losing bout against Solo Sikoa in the Last Time Is Now Tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent, the former Dolph Ziggler could make his way back in 2026.

Gaining acclaim in TNA Wrestling, it could be that in 2026 WWE fans see more from the longtime star but in a crossover capacity rather than full re-signing.

Anchoring Thursday Night Impact, it could be a bit longer before Nemeth would consider re-signing with WWE full time.

Having been a standout during her time in both NXT and the main roster, fans were surprised that Shayna Baszler was released by WWE in May 2025.

While waiting out her non-compete period though, Baszler was spotted working backstage in a coaching role in NXT — a position she may end up returning to in the future.

While she confirmed she hasn’t been officially rehired, Baszler did note in a recent interview that she enjoyed the coaching role even more than she thought she would.

Definitely an asset in front of the camera as well as and working behind the scenes, Baszler has a lot more to contribute to WWE in the future.

3. Paige

Former WWE star Saraya (Paige)

One WWE return that fans have continued to ask for is former NXT Champion as well as two-time Divas Champion, Paige.

With the recent returns of AJ Lee and The Bella Twins, it would be the perfect time for Paige to pop back up and play a major role ahead of WrestleMania 42.

Potentially coming back with a dastardly heel attitude, it could be that Paige ends up becoming the next feud for AJ Lee after she’s done with Becky Lynch.

Since it seems AJ and Lynch’s rivalry could be winding down, it could make for a perfect surprise return to see Paige come back to WWE to shake things up.

2. Trevor Lee (Cameron Grimes)

Trevor Lee has continued his pro wrestling journey after being released from WWE in April 2024.

Formerly known as Cameron Grimes during his time in the company, Lee was a star in NXT that quickly fizzled out on the main roster.

Starting off 2026 strong, Lee has appeared twice already in MLW this year and could be poised to bring his talents back to TV soon.

Still in his early 30s, Lee has plenty left to offer should WWE look to pick him up again in the future.

1. Chris Jericho

Former WWE Champion, AEW star Chris Jericho

Speculation continues about what could be next for professional wrestling legend Chris Jericho given his 10 month absence from AEW TV.

While Jericho’s status is unclear, there could be some new developments ahead with a brand new mystery being kicked off in WWE.

With a mysterious crate delivered first to WWE Raw on Monday February 16 , it was then routed by Adam Pearce to WWE SmackDown to Nick Aldis who would elect to return it to Pearce in time for the February 23 episode of Raw.

However, while the crate notes to not open it until 02/28/26, there hasn’t been any more specific clues that it is Jericho related. Given his uncertain contract situation in AEW it seems unlikely that the reveal will be related to Y2J, however, it does seem as if the veteran will be WWE bound whenever he’s free to do so.
