With a big title change on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown, Drew McIntyre will be in need of a brand new opponent for WrestleMania 42.

After losing the match against Cody Rhodes on the March 6 edition of SmackDown – meaning the WWE Title match at Mania is now Rhodes defending against Randy Orton – Drew McIntyre still has plenty of enemies across both Raw and SmackDown who may be lining up to fight.

Here are six potential WrestleMania 42 plans for Drew McIntyre after he lost the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown.

6. Sin City Street Fight against Jacob Fatu

Drew McIntyre could dominate for a second year in a row in a Sin City Street Fight.

While his fiery feud continues with Jacob Fatu, it could be the perfect opportunity for the pair to up the ante on last year’s bout between McIntyre and Damian Priest.

Able to bring in a new level of violence at WrestleMania 42, the match could stand alone as a much more vicious display amongst the weekend of pageantry.

Bringing in weapons or even having the bout have more of an impromptu feel by brawling all over Allegiant Stadium or even spilling out into the literal street, WWE may have a unique opportunity to showcase a grittier edge with the two popular stars going head to head.

5. Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins

With Seth Rollins having returned to be revealed as the mystery attacker of The Vision at Elimination Chamber, he would make an appearance on WWE Raw after the event as well.

Delivering a chair shot and a stomp to Paul Heyman, Rollins may have found his vengeance towards The Vision and could therefore move on to something entirely different in the weeks ahead.

If Drew McIntyre were to crash out over his Undisputed WWE Championship loss and take his demanding attitude over to Raw, he would become a legitimate threat to destroying their main event – especially after CM Punk and Roman Reigns have badmouthed him in the build to their own match.

With Seth Rollins likely intent on taking on either of his mortal enemies CM Punk or Roman Reigns in the future to reclaim his World Heavyweight Championship, it would be enjoyable to see Rollins cast in the unlikely role of needing to protect Punk & Reigns on the road to WrestleMania 42.

4. Lights Out Match Against Nick Aldis

While there would probably be some HR violations in the event an active manager engaged in a sanctioned fight against a member of the roster, WWE could have a ‘Lights Out Match’ to navigate around that.

With the unsanctioned fight technically not taking place within the realm of any regulation of the company, Drew McIntyre and Nick Aldis would be free to throw down.

Putting a brand new spin on the beloved trope of the employee getting to strike back at a tyrannical boss, in this instance the aspirational moment would be entirely different.

Casting the managerial force as a babyface in the bout, it could be just as satisfying to see comeuppance for a chronically petulant employee as it is to see McIntyre fight his boss.

3. Added To Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton

While it seemed as though WWE could have been headed for having a multi-man match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42, things certainly switched up on the latest edition of SmackDown.

After Jacob Fatu re-emerged in the main event, Cody Rhodes was able to capitalize on the distraction and take out Drew McIntyre to reclaim the Undisputed WWE Championship.

In light of the interference, McIntyre could certainly petition for why he should be added to the WWE Title match at Mania.

Potentially leading to a route for Randy Orton to win his 15th World Championship with the nuance that if Orton was to pin McIntyre, the moment would out of Rhodes’ hands – a lot of emotionally intriguing moments could carry forward into Backlash.

2. Drew McIntyre vs. Oba Femi

There is some unresolved drama between Drew McIntyre and another popular star in Oba Femi.

After McIntyre interrupted Femi’s big match against Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event back in December, it could be that the moment comes back around.

With Oba Femi currently bouncing between WWE Raw and SmackDown, making his fierce presence known across both brands, perhaps it will be a feud with McIntyre that sets his course for the rest of the road to WrestleMania.

Although there are a number of potential feuds moving forward for Drew McIntyre, perhaps tangling with The Ruler will have to wait until Backlash or later.

1. Drew McIntyre vs. Chris Jericho

Drew McIntyre has seemingly made his feelings quite clear towards both CM Punk and Cody Rhodes but there could be another major name about to return to the WWE universe.

With persistent rumors that Chris Jericho could be set to re-sign with WWE when his contractual obligations to AEW are complete, it could be the perfect first feud back for Jericho to have to get through Drew McIntyre.

McIntyre could be incredibly abrupt, hoping to stop the invasion of Jericho before it’s able to truly begin by setting his sights on eliminating the legendary star as quickly as possible.

Able to tell both a compelling emotional story but also put on a powerhouse match in the ring, it could be that McIntyre is the perfect return opponent for Chris Jericho.
