Over the past few years, fans have seen various AEW stars make their way to WWE and make a significant impact on the company.

Whether it be Cody Rhodes and CM Punk or Ricky Saints and Jade Cargill, these names have held gold and been part of some of the most memorable moments in the promotion since signing.

Looking at the current free agency market or those currently on the AEW roster, there could be even more talent that were once under contract for Tony Khan’s promotion who make a similar move to WWE in the coming months.

Here are seven AEW stars to potentially re-sign with WWE.

7. Paige

Former WWE star Saraya (Paige)

Back in March 2025, Saraya announced her departure from All Elite Wrestling after a three-year run with the company.

The former AEW Women’s World Champion has made it no secret that she would be open to a return to WWE.

Wanting to become Paige once again, the former AEW star could make her mark on the wrestling industry in 2026 by signing with WWE again.

Re-signing with WWE would open the door for some tantalizing dream matchups for Paige against the litany of talent in the women’s division, such as Stephanie Vaquer, Tiffany Stratton or Roxanne Perez.

6. Billy Gunn

Signing with AEW back in 2019, Billy Gunn was brought in as a backstage producer and coach.

However, Gunn is most known for his role as an on-screen performer, being paired with Anthony Bowens and Max Caster in the Acclaimed where he guided the duo to the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

The former AEW World Trios Champion has felt like someone who would fit in nicely in the current landscape of WWE.

With his fellow D-Generation X members in prominent management and backstage positions, it would make a ton of sense for Billy Gunn to re-sign with WWE to have a similar role.

5. Chris Jericho

Amidst his absence from AEW this year, Chris Jericho has found himself in the headlines on a regular basis.

Reports and rumors have indicated that WWE has strong interest in bringing Jericho back to the promotion when his AEW contract expires at the end of 2025.

With the calendar about to change over to 2026, it seems very likely that fans could see Jericho make his long awaited return to WWE in the new year.

Back in 2021, Paul Wight signed with All Elite Wrestling and has mostly worked in a behind-the-scenes or ambassador role for the company.

The former Big Show made a name for himself in the industry as one of the most recognizable giants in the history of pro wrestling.

Despite not competing in the ring in the past few years, Wight was never inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame unlike so many of his peers during his time in that company.

Paul Wight re-signing with WWE in the new year would open the door for the legend to be honored in the Hall of Fame class of 2026.

3. Buddy Matthews

After an eight year run with WWE, Buddy Matthews made the move to sign with All Elite Wrestling in 2022.

Since then, Matthews has left his mark in House of Black and Hounds of Hell, while capturing the AEW World Trios Championships with Brody King and Malakai Black along the way.

Back at AEW Grand Slam: Australia, Kazuchika Okada defeated Buddy Matthews to retain the AEW Continental Championship. During the course of this bout, Matthews suffered a serious ankle injury that has sidelined him for the majority of the year.

After recovering from this injury, Buddy might feel like making a return to WWE to work alongside his wife Rhea Ripley following his success in AEW the past three years.

2. Jim Ross

Jim Ross signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2019 and was brought on to become one of the signature voices on the call for AEW Dynamite.

Now in 2025, Ross has taken more of a lesser role only contributing to the product during their pay-per-view events.

JR recently revealed that he re-signed with AEW for one more year, feeling like he is winding down his time in the business.

However, there are many fans who believe Jim Ross deserves one more time in the limelight of WWE and should have one more call behind the commentary desk before he finally hangs up his headset for good.

1. Keith Lee

AEW star Keith Lee

Since being pulled from the AEW Worlds End 2023 card, Keith Lee has been away from the company’s programming for over two years now.

In the summer of 2025, Lee revealed that he has been healthy and ready to return for quite some time, waiting for plans for his comeback to the promotion.

However, it seems like Lee’s return might not ever happen at this point with so much having changed within the company during his hiatus from in-ring competition.

“The Limitless One” re-signing with WWE after this AEW run would be a welcomed surprise, giving the company a second chance to make good on a star who seemed destined to sit atop as a world champion one day during his original run there.
