In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, MJF discussed WWE still having interest in him coming to the company.
While he is once again the AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has not been shy about defending the top prize in All Elite Wrestling against stars outside of the company.
Following his recent match with Alec Price for Limitless Wrestling and his upcoming bout against Zilla Fatu for HOG, there is always the chance a WWE star could potentially square off with the current AEW World Champion.
Here are eight WWE stars to potentially face AEW World Champion MJF.
8. AJ Styles
At WWE Royal Rumble 2026, GUNTHER defeated AJ Styles to retire him from the company due to the prematch stipulation.
While this loss should have closed the book on his career, Styles put his signature gloves back on after the match to signal that he could return to the squared circle sometime down the road.
With Styles’ WWE contract about to expire, fans could see “The Phenomenal One” explore his options outside of the promotion sooner rather than later.
Styles is the WWE star who could realistically face MJF in the near future, whether it be in an AEW ring or outside of it.

7. Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn is one of WWE’s most popular and beloved stars on the roster today.
Known as the ultimate underdog babyface, Zayn has faced off with a who’s who of the WWE roster over the course of his 13 year run with the company.
Considering his background, MJF is someone who could relate to Zayn and could play off their similarities in a storyline.
Being the consummate heel on the AEW roster, MJF facing off with Zayn is just a matchup that makes a ton of sense as far as their opposite dynamics.

6. Jacob Fatu
MJF issued a challenge to Zilla Fatu for the AEW World Championship at the upcoming HOG No Turning Back event on Friday, February 20.
In announcing this match, MJF cut a promo where he referenced Zilla’s family members who are currently in WWE.
Both MJF and WWE star Jacob Fatu have a ton of connections despite never facing each other, including their time in Major League Wrestling.
Seeing how “The Samoan Werewolf” is currently one of the most popular babyfaces on WWE SmackDown, Fatu could be an ideal opponent for MJF that would make for an intriguing contest.

5. Rey Mysterio
Over the past year, MJF has shown his incredible chemistry with various luchadors all around the world.
Whether it be his match of the year candidate against Mistico in 2025 or his most recent bout against Bandido at AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage 2026, MJF has shown that he works extremely well with luchadors time and time again.
When looking at the WWE roster, it is filled with stellar lucha libre talent, such as Rey Fenix, Penta and Dragon Lee.
However, the greatest luchador of all time might just be Rey Mysterio, which would make for a compelling showdown with MJF that could be an extraordinary bout over the AEW World Championship.

4. Randy Orton
While he made his WWE debut back in 2002, Randy Orton is still going strong in 2026.
“The Legend Killer” is among the biggest stars on the WWE roster and can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the business today.
In various interviews, MJF has mentioned Orton as one of his inspirations from his lengthy career in the industry.
MJF facing Orton would make for a marquee matchup regardless of which company it happened on and would headline any building in the world today.

3. Seth Rollins
During NFL Super Bowl XL week, MJF and Seth Rollins went viral by meeting up and speaking with one another during media row day.
When it comes to WWE and AEW, there are probably no stars who represent their companies better than Rollins and MJF.
If there was ever going to be a WWE vs. AEW match, it might as well be Maxwell Jacob Friedman going against Seth Rollins.
Rollins trying to take the AEW World Championship from MJF and trying to bring it to WWE would be a compelling storyline to watch unfold that can truly play off of the company lines.

2. Cody Rhodes
When All Elite Wrestling first started, Cody Rhodes brought MJF into the company as his protege.
However, Maxwell Jacob Friedman got sick and tired of being in Cody’s shadow and eventually cost him the AEW World Title against Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear 2019.
The two men would then clash at the AEW Revolution 2020 pay-per-view with MJF picking up a win over Rhodes. This proved to be their only match during their time together in the promotion.
Now that Rhodes sits atop of WWE as the top babyface, there might not be anyone better to face off with MJF from the roster than “The American Nightmare.”

1. CM Punk
Another current WWE star who had a famous feud with MJF during their time in All Elite Wrestling was CM Punk.
After making his return to pro wrestling in AEW, Punk was embroiled in one of the best rivalries of his career against MJF that culminated in a Dog Collar Match at AEW Revolution 2022.
Since leaving AEW, Punk has mentioned this MJF feud as some of his best work in the company, while Maxwell Jacob Friedman has maintained his hatred for “The Best In The World” on several occasions.
If he is to face anyone on the WWE roster, there are fans who will be begging for MJF to go one-on-one with Punk for a final time with the AEW World Championship on the line.
