WWE has placed greater emphasis on tag team wrestling in recent months — with SmackDown especially seeing improvement.
Historically however, WWE tag teams end in splits, with one partner pushed as a breakout singles star — think Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, or Edge.
Right now, the company has no shortage of talented tag team wrestlers waiting to break out.
Here are six stars who have the potential to rise to the top as singles competitors.
6. Montez Ford

It perhaps seems unfair to pick between members of The Street Profits.
Both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have proven themselves as charismatic, talented performers with potential as singles stars.
That said, Ford’s high-flying offence – especially his breathtaking frog splash – sets him apart as one of the most spectacular athletes in WWE.
At 35, if the company are going to pull the trigger on a singles push for Ford, the time is now.

5. Tyler Bate

It’s hard to believe that Tyler Bate is still only 28 – given he’s been with WWE since the UK Championship Tournament in January 2017.
There are few talents with his level of skill who have been so consistently underemphasised for such a long period.
Currently back teaming with his on-and-off partner and rival Pete Dunne, they have already been relegated to WWE’s C-show Main Event.
He still has the potential to become a singles star – though whether WWE will ever capitalise on that is another matter entirely.

4. Ricky Smokes

Swipe Right, the team of Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor, have quickly become standouts on WWE’s Evolve brand.
Bringing a detestable, contemporary twist to the classic frat-boy gimmick, they generate real heat with their truly unlikable personas.
Both men are charismatic, and their in-ring work has grown increasingly polished as they balance time between Evolve, NXT, and the indies.
Of the two, 25-year-old Ricky Smokes arguably has the edge, as the more experienced worker, already showing breakout potential as a future WWE singles star.

3. Grayson Waller

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory have been locked in a protracted breakup for over a year now.
Despite constant teases, the split has yet to occur.
Of the two, Waller arguably has the stronger potential as a singles star, with natural charisma and proven microphone skills.
While perhaps not a future main eventer, he could comfortably step into the kind of upper-mid-card role long held by The Miz – if the team ever actually breaks up, that is!

2. Osiris Griffin

Since their arrival in NXT, the DarkState – Osiris Griffin, Dion Lennox, and Cutler James – have remained undefeated.
Heavily styled after The Shield, they scored a major win on the 6 May edition of NXT, beating tag champs Hank and Tank (alongside Joe Hendry) in a trios bout, setting up a likely title shot for Griffin and Lennox.
Of the team, Griffin has emerged as the standout: with an imposing presence and a raw, aggressive style.
Though still green with fewer than 20 matches, it’s clear Griffin is being positioned as a potential breakout singles star in WWE.

1. Nathan Frazer

There are arguably few performers on the WWE roster with more potential than Smackdown’s Nathan Frazer.
Alongside Axiom, he forms the standout team Fraxiom, who were elevated to the main roster following WrestleMania.
At just 26, Frazer is one of the most spectacular in-ring performers in the company – blending incredible speed with innovative high-flying.
While his size might be seen as a limitation in a company still dominated by larger athletes, Frazer has the talent to shatter that glass ceiling.
