While still on the heels of a massive WrestleMania 41, WWE is approaching the next big event – Backlash 2025 in St Louis, Missouri on May 10.
From stars that are out of action due to injury, to others who have simply been absent from TV for some time – there could be multiple big returns at the event.
Here are six potential returns at WWE Backlash 2025.
6. Kabuki Warriors

With Dakota Kai departing WWE and IYO SKY holding the WWE Women’s World Championship – the future remains unknown for the Damage CTRL faction.
Asuka is reportedly set for a return in May – a detail that was noted ahead of WrestleMania 41.
What better way for her to make a surprise return than to reappear at Backlash 2025 – however what isn’t known is whether or not she will be alone.
Also reportedly spotted backstage at WrestleMania 41 and nearing return – Kairi Sane. Potentially signaling the return of the duo as a tag team, they could definitely pop-up in St. Louis.

5. Bronson Reed

One star that has been away from WWE screens for months is Bronson Reed, and his absence is certainly felt.
Reed suffered a fractured talus bone during last year’s WarGames match at Survivor Series, an injury that required the Australian star to undergo surgery.
With his unique brand of destruction being sorely missed on WWE Raw each week, Reed is reportedly expected to return in May or June 2025.
Definitely able to fit the Backlash theme, Reed could target several members of the WWE roster – including Solo Sikoa or Jacob Fatu, conceivably in retaliation for his injury while joining the New Bloodline team.

4. Nikki Bella

After making a surprise return to the ring at the Royal Rumble 2025, it doesn’t seem that Nikki Bella plans to continue to stay away from WWE.
Teasing working on something big this Summer on her podcast, fans have set their expectations for another in-ring appearance from Nikki in 2025.
While there have been rumors of an upcoming WWE Evolution 2 will be happening on July 5 – the company has yet to confirm.
Perhaps making an appearance at WWE Backlash in order to set up a feud going into the Summer – we could see one, if not both, Bellas back in action.

3. The Rock

The Final Boss has been making his presence felt even in his physical absence in WWE.
After participating in John Cena’s iconic heel turn at Elimination Chamber, The Rock remained out of sight on the road to WrestleMania – and at the big event.
After his post-WrestleMania appearance on the Pat McAfee show did little to quell the fan fury – it seems possible that there are storyline points that were waiting for Backlash.
With Randy Orton set to take on John Cena at premium live event, perhaps the 17x champion will need a helping hand from The Rock to retain his title.

2. Wyatt Sicks With Alexa Bliss

While she made a big return at the Royal Rumble 2025 and would go on to both qualify for and participate in the WWE Elimination Chamber match – Alexa Bliss hasn’t been seen since.
Similarly absent from TV, the Wyatt Sicks (Uncle Howdy/Bo Dallas, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis and Nikki Cross) which were rumored to be affiliated with Bliss somehow.
Although the reported surprise at WrestleMania 41 never came to fruition, it doesn’t mean that there won’t end up being a crossover between Bliss and Wyatt Sicks eventually.
Backlash would be a great place for the faction to strike, perhaps interfering in a match. With a few potential targets with deep history with Bliss (including Nia Jax and Randy Orton) a surprise ambush by the frightening faction would have foundation in WWE canon.

1. Cody Rhodes

The American Nightmare hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since his loss at WrestleMania 41 to John Cena ended his first and only reign as Undisputed WWE Champion.
However since he is prominently displayed on the poster for the upcoming June 7th premium live event, Money in the Bank in Los Angeles, one would assume he’ll return sooner rather than later.
It would be great to see Cody Rhodes return at Backlash 2025 to help Randy Orton win his 15th WWE World Championship – thereby breaking the tie with Triple H and securing Orton’s place as the second most world title wins behind Cena.
Teeing up the possibility of John Cena winning an 18th world championship in his quest to get the title back from Orton before his retirement, there could be simmering tension with Rhodes, Cena and Orton throughout the summer!
