Triple H and the WWE Cruiserweight Championship

While WWE has plenty of active titles right now, they could potentially add an older championship into the mix to give their ever growing roster more to compete for.

From NXT to the main roster, WWE could bring back retired championships or even different designs that are fondly remembered by the fans.

Here are six old WWE championships to potentially return.

6. WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships

In 2021, WWE NXT introduced Women’s Tag Team Championships for their impressive women’s division to compete for.

However, 2023 saw the titles unified with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Looking at the current NXT women’s scene, the brand could easily bring these titles back into the fold with the likes of ZaRuca, Fatal Influence and WrenQCC.

Giving some of the younger talents on the roster an opportunity to become champion, the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships could put a bigger spotlight on the division even further.

5. WWE Cruiserweight Championship

The Cruiserweight Championship was first created in WCW and became a highlight of the company’s television for several years in the 1990s.

After WCW shut down, WWE would bring back the Cruiserweight Title in the 2000s and made it a spotlighted championship on SmackDown.

After retiring the title in 2007, the company would once again bring back the title after the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016.

With the title being retired yet again in 2022, WWE could give a much needed spotlight to the likes of Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix with the return of the Cruiserweight Championship in the current landscape.

4. WWE European Championship

In the 1990s, WWE debuted the European Championship as another secondary title in the promotion to go along with the Intercontinental Championship.

After being a consistent part of the company throughout the Attitude Era, WWE decided to retire the title in July of 2002.

In the years since, the promotion has added so many stellar stars from Europe, such as Drew McIntyre, GUNTHER, Ilja Dragunov, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate and Finn Balor.

Bringing back the European Championship would be a brilliant way to give these talents from the continent to represent on WWE TV moving forward.

3. NXT United Kingdom Championship

In a similar vein, WWE NXT had their own version of the European Championship with the United Kingdom Title.

Back in 2017, WWE elevated European talent by introducing stars from the U.K. in a tournament to determine the championship.

With the likes of Tyler Bate, Pete Dunne and GUNTHER having notable title reigns, the NXT United Kingdom Championship has a lineage that feels second to none.

After retiring the title in 2022, it might be time for WWE to bring it back, especially with murmurs concerning the introduction of a NXT Europe brand in the future.

2. Spinner United States Championship

While the previous entries include titles being brought back to create more opportunities for the roster, there are different versions or designs of championships that could help particular champions.

Prior to becoming United States Champion, Carmelo Hayes stated that he wanted to bring back a popular older design.

During the 2000s, John Cena introduced a spinner version of the U.S. Title that helped his rapper persona at the time.

Wanting to bring back this iteration of the title, Hayes could further cement his reign as United States Champion by giving fans a return to the popular Spinner Title.

1. Big Eagle WWE Championship

Back at the tailend of 2024, Cody Rhodes was gifted the Winged Eagle WWE Championship for his match against Kevin Owens on the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Owens then stole the title away from Rhodes despite losing that match and held it hostage for a couple of months.

There are other versions of the WWE Title that might make a comeback to further characters and stories in a similar fashion.

Drew McIntyre taunting his rival Cody Rhodes by bringing back the Big Eagle WWE Championship would be an interesting way to further escalate this intense feud between the two.
