5 Surprises For AEW Worlds End 2024

Share

AEW Worlds End 2024

The year is about to end, but there is no slowing down for AEW, with the second annual Worlds End pay-per-view taking place on December 28.

Worlds End is a card stacked with high quality matches as ever, but it also carries a lot of potential for dramatic story beats also.

Can AEW get the wrestling world talking heading into the new year? Let’s take a look at what could happen on that late December night.

5. Adam Cole Wins Diamond Ring

AEW star Adam Cole

For five years MJF has defended his coveted Dynamite Diamond Ring, but this year represents the biggest chance we could see it change hands.

While the storyline between Adam Cole and MJF has been met with several hurdles, the best way to end it and gain at least one big moment would be by having Cole get the win at Worlds End.

Seeing MJF dethroned as Dynamite Diamond Ring holder would be a shocker and something that would get people excited as we wish farewell to this year and hopefully to this troubled feud.

MJF and Cole are crying out for a fresh start in 2025, so hopefully we get that with a convincing and definitive result in Orlando.

4. Ricochet Wins The Continental Classic

AEW star Ricochet

The character development of Ricochet in recent weeks has been a breath of fresh air for the former WWE star, whether you agree with how AEW has gone about it or not.

The Hurt Syndicate’s treatment of him during his segment on the December 18 Dynamite certainly divide opinion, but regardless it is nice to see Ricochet finally see some kind personality.

His potential alliance with The Hurt Syndicate will be a point of interest heading into Worlds End, but the rules of the tournament will obviously restrict any outside shenanigans taking place.

So, if Ricochet is to win he has to do it solo. But as he’s proven thus far he’s capable of doing that even if he has to adopt underhanded tactics. Whether he wins or not, Ricochet’s AEW future looks far brighter as a heel than it did as the same babyface character he’s been playing for the last six years.

3. The True Leader Of The Death Riders Is Revealed

WWE's Shane McMahon

Months on from their formation and we still do not know what the true purpose of the Death Riders is, besides causing chaos and ‘changing’ AEW. Whatever that means.

Living up to the pay-per-view’s name, Worlds End could be the perfect show to drastically change the course of the angle and lead the company into a new chapter.

After previous teases of a ‘higher power’ of sorts directing The Death Riders to do what they do, perhaps Worlds End could finally see that big reveal take place.

While it seems unlikely at this point, perhaps that reveal  could in fact be Shane McMahon – the mastermind, who is ready to take control of the company altogether. Certainly would be one way to close 2024 with a bang.

2. Christian Cage Cashes In His Championship Match

In the presumed main event of Worlds End, Jon Moxley has to defend the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page, Orange Cassidy and Jay White.

Naturally, whoever is champion after this match will be extremely beat up and exhausted, allowing for a perfect opportunity for Christian Cage to cash in his guaranteed title opportunity.

The question remains if Cage will be successful with his endeavour as the company seems to be far from any plans that would involve Captain Charisma.

Ultimately though it would be one of the biggest surprises the company could deliver at Worlds End, with only a former friend of Christian potentially leaving a bigger impression on the event…

1. Adam Copeland returns

As recent reports suggest, Adam Copeland is ready to return to the ring rather soon.

The Rated-R-Superstar has been tipped to return at the New Year’s Day edition of Dynamite, being teased as a partner for FTR against The Death Riders.

While that can still be the case, it feels like Worlds End would be the bigger stage for AEW to bring back the Rated R Superstar.

On this day in December, we all may see clearly, that the in-ring career of Adam Copeland has come back to life again and we could see the next chapter of his legendary career begin in Orlando on Saturday night.
