5 New AEW Championships

While there is perpetual discourse between fans regarding whether there are too many titles in AEW, there is a chance that some of the less important titles could be fazed out in favor of new ones.

Each with a unique spin and a genuine purpose to bring something special to AEW, there are absolutely ways that new titles could make for great stories and matches in the future.

Here are five new AEW Championships that Tony Khan could introduce in 2025.

5. AEW Welterweight Championship

While there is certainly enough talent and fan interest in the Heavyweight division, AEW is also stacked with stars of a lighter stature.

There could definitely be a cruiserweight style title and division represented in AEW as well but probably with a different name.

While in UFC terms the Welterweight class is defined as topping out at 170 lbs – there’s other terms for Tony Khan to choose from depending on his definition for the division.

The title could provide an opportunity to showcase talent from partner promotions like NJPW and CMLL as well. While it would not have to be consistently defended, it would be a fun to see occasional defenses when the story fit.

4. AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship

It isn’t an innovative suggestion as the notion has certainly been floated before but AEW could actually benefit overall from the addition of an official tag team championship in the women’s division.

There are numerous current pairings possible in AEW to support the addition of a women’s tag team championship, with a ton of potential stories to be told.

Perhaps there aren’t really plans to expand the AEW women’s tag team division – however, with a recent crop of WWE releases about to unleash a lot of talented women with something to prove – now could be the perfect time.

Even if only instituted via a Brodie Lee Memorial Tag Team tournament that is won once a year (similarly to the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament in singles competition) – it could rotate between men’s and women’s tag teams and honor a beloved star posthumously.

3. AEW Sasquatch Championship

While WWE looks to permeate the independent wrestling scene with the introduction of both the WWE ID program as well as the WWE ID Championship – AEW has the chance to embrace indecent wrestling in its own way.

With roots established in several big indie promotions, AEW could effectively introduce an Independent Championship – with a twist.

In the past, Bryan Danielson has discussed a future where he was retired from in-ring competition – but popped up randomly for an unannounced indie match just for fun.

If this AEW title was actually established through a surprise victory by Bryan Danielson at an independent promotion show – there would be mythical Bryan Danielson title just existing in the universe. The title would be certain to create massive buzz & headlines whenever it magically appeared – just like an actual Sasquatch!

2. AEW Super Heavyweight Championship

The purpose of this title would be clear – to determine who was the absolute biggest and baddest of all of the big and bad in AEW.

While there aren’t a ton of monster sized men on the roster at the minute, there are enough candidates that creating the title and thereby a new division of sorts – makes complete sense.

Of course there are way better names including, but not limited to the Meat Madness Championship, Big Boys Championship, Meaty Meat Championship – the list goes on.

However to be on the safe side, it could always just be called the AEW Super Heavyweight Championship… determined by a Meat Madness tournament?

1. AEW On Sight Championship

Eddie Kingston AEW

While this title is technically inspired by WWE, don’t call it the 24/7 Championship – although it is similar.

However, since AEW is absolutely “for the sickos” having a hardcore-esq title that could potentially defended anywhere and any time could be incredibly fun.

A way to utilize fan favorites like Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy and even Danhausen (should he ever re-appear) it could also be used in more serious storylines – including the future return of Eddie Kingston who could absolutely become emblematic for this niche division.

If done well, one title could encapsulate all of fan’s favorite parts of AEW – the entire ice cream shop to borrow an analogy – through different reigns representing different facets of the company.
