11 Exciting Potential Opponents For Christian Cage In AEW

11. Jungle Boy

Christian Cage has arrived in All Elite Wrestling and he has made it clear that he will be a full-time performer. More importantly, he has arrived with the goal to outwork everyone. Thankfully for him, AEW has a loaded roster with dozens of unique stars for him to face. One of the stars we are most excited to see him face is Jungle Boy.

Jungle Boy has taken major strides in a very short time in AEW. Coming into the company in 2019 he was still new to the business but now he is one of their brightest and most talented stars. If Christian wants to test himself against an extremely talented young man, Jungle Boy is a great place to start.

10. Chris Jericho

Just about the polar opposite of Jungle Boy, Chris Jericho is the elder statesman of the AEW roster. Additionally, he is one of the few stars on the roster with extensive history with Christian Cage. Their tag team and rivalry in WWE was very entertaining and it would be great to see them mix it up at this stage in their career.

They would definitely wrestle a different style than they did in 2004, but that isn’t a negative. Jericho has proven to be able to get the most out of what he does in AEW and working with a determined Christian would be very intriguing.

9. Rey Fenix

Christian Cage has often been the smaller man when he wrestles but he has shown his ability when facing undersized men. Rey Fenix is the premiere luchador in AEW and arguably wrestling as a whole right now. The styles clash between the versatile Christian and the lightning-fast Fenix would be one of the most interesting matchups Christian could have in AEW.

Despite being in the same company as Rey Mysterio for a good portion of his WWE career, Christian and Mysterio rarely crossed paths. Fenix and Mysterio have their differences but we may get the chance to see Christian wrestle a very exciting style that has eluded him for most of his career.

8. Orange Cassidy

While Christian Cage has been one of the most consistent in-ring performers throughout his career, he is also a hell of an entertainer. Whether it be his time as Edge’s partner, or his run as Captain Charisma, he is one of the funniest wrestlers out there.

Why not put him against one of AEW’s best comedy wrestlers? A match with Orange Cassidy could be pure comedy or it could be a full-tilt wrestling match akin to Cassidy’s match with PAC. There are a lot of possibilities and that could lead to multiple matches between the two.

7. Penta El Zero M

Whereas Rey Fenix is one of the most impressive athletes in AEW, his brother Penta El Zero M is one of the most charismatic. Penta appears to be finally getting a singles push in AEW and thus could be in line for a singles match with Christian Cage.

Penta is currently lined up to feud with Cody Rhodes and if he is able to make it through Cody, Christian makes sense as a future opponent. The match itself would be very exciting as well. Similar to Fenix, Penta presents a style that Christian has not had too many opportunities to work with in his career.

6. PAC

Christian Cage and PAC just missed each other in WWE. As Christian was forced into retirement in 2014, PAC was the NXT Champion. By the time PAC made it to the main roster in 2015, Christian was already long gone. Now, they have the opportunity to wrestle for the first time in their careers.

PAC has proven time and time again to be one of the best and most exciting performers in wrestling. This, frankly, is a match that makes loads of sense. They would need a storyline reason to get there, but the match would be fantastic. If Christian wants to outwork everyone, PAC is going to be a very difficult person to outwork. However, that should mean great matches for us, the fans.

5. Darby Allin

Christian Cage had very positive things to say about Darby Allin during his interview on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions. He compared Allin to Jeff Hardy, who Christian has a lot of history with. Allin is clearly one of AEW’s most beloved stars and someone who has the potential to be a top star for years in the promotion. What better way to test the enigmatic star than a rivalry with the uber-consistent Christian?

While Allin does wrestle a different style from Jeff Hardy, he and Hardy share the same daredevil qualities. Christian is much more grounded and could be a fantastic base for Allin while also being able to keep up with his incredibly quick pace. Plus, if Christian eventually wants to be the face of TNT, that would serve to elevate the title and Allin’s reign further.

4. MJF

MJF is perhaps the most can’t-miss young star in AEW. He has everything you could want in a young heel and has proven himself to be a classic old-school worker. And, of course, he can talk. While not necessarily known for his promos, Christian Cage is also a great talker. To have a dueling promo segment with these two would be just as exciting as a potential match.

That being said, MJF could greatly benefit from a rivalry with another veteran who also wrestles a fairly old-school style. Christian fills that role very well. With MJF now heading up his own stable, he will need people to clash with and Christian could end up being one of those people.

3. Hangman Page

Since November 2019, Hangman Page has transformed from a floundering upper-midcard babyface to one of the most intriguing and complete characters in wrestling. This is where Christian Cage could actually benefit from wrestling somewhere, rather than the other way around.

Christian comes into AEW wanting to outwork his competition but that doesn’t do much for his character. Granted he has been in the company for a very short amount of time as of this writing, but a character-driven rivalry could be very exciting and extremely helpful to make Christian a more interesting performer.

That being said, the match these two could have would be incredible as well.

2. Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley recently said that his dream AEW signing was Christian Cage. Well, consider this a dream come true for Moxley because it is basically an inevitability that these two will clash at some point. Moxley and Christian have competed before during their time in WWE but Moxley has been on another plane of existence compared to his WWE run over the last two years.

There is no doubt that Moxley would bring his absolute A-Game against Christian considering how bad he wants to wrestle him again. Additionally, Moxley has been one of the most heavily pushed and protected stars in AEW. Christian being positioned against him is a win in every way possible.

1. Kenny Omega

This is all but guaranteed after Christian’s first appearance on AEW Dynamite. How long we will have to wait to see Christian challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship remains to be seen but it is coming. It is also the most exciting match Christian could have in the company.

Kenny Omega’s reputation speaks for itself. There are few wrestlers over the last five years with a better claim to being the best wrestler in the world than Omega and now he is on top of AEW. If Christian wants to prove himself to be one of the best to ever do it as he has said, he needs to do it against the best. Right now, Kenny Omega is the best.
