Champion In Another Company Wants To Continue Feud With AEW’s MJF

A champion wants a feud with AEW star MJF to continue, having faced each other at an iconic venue in September of last year.

The CMLL 92nd Anniversary Show on September 19, 2025, saw Mistico face MJF in a Title vs. Mask match for the World Light Heavyweight Championship.

Mistico would be successful in that match, with a show of respect between opponents following weeks of attacks by the AEW star.

Speaking to SI.com, Mistico reflected on the match and his rivalry with MJF, revealing a degree of admiration for the AEW star, saying:

“I admire MJF and I respect him about what he did in this rivalry that was so important for me in this year.

“And, I also proved to him that it is not easy to step in Arena Mexico and to be on the Anniversary show in CMLL in that historic match, Mask vs Title.”

The significance of the match taking place at Arena México wasn’t lost on the CMLL star, who also revealed he wants to take the rivalry outside of the country, stating:

“It’s something that hasn’t happened in the history of lucha libre, and for the first time in CMLL it happene,d and I proved that it’s not easy to be in the ‘Cathedral of Lucha Libre’ against Mistico in a Mask vs. Title Match.

“For sure I took the victory and I became the new CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion, but this is a rivalry that I want to continue to not only happen in Mexico.”

“I want this rivalry to happen in the United States. With the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, I had some defenses in the UK against Michael Oku.

“A few weeks ago against Soberano Jr. (in Mexico). So I want this rivalry with MJF to continue also in the United States and also here in Mexico.”

Mistico is no stranger to AEW, having last competed on Collision back in November of last year, teaming with Mascara Dorada and Neon as El Sky Team defended the CMLL World Trios Championship against The Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita).

At the time of writing, Mistico holds two singles victories over MJF, having also beaten him at the Grand Slam Mexico episode of Dynamite in June last year.

MJF is currently feuding with Bandido in AEW, having lost his diamond ring to the luchador, with a World Championship match set for the Maximum Carnage episode of Dynamite this week.
