An AEW star has reflected on a spot at a past pay-per-view that may have left some fans feeling somewhat uneasy.
AEW All Out 2024 saw Hangman Adam Page take on Swerve Strickland in a “Lights Out” unsanctioned steel cage match.
With the unsanctioned nature of the match allowing for more extreme moments, one such spot saw a medical syringe brought into play.
Strickland has now addressed the spot in question during a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, recognizing how it played on the fear of needles, saying:
“It was just something that I don’t think has been seen on American soil, television-wise, in a major promotion like that in a while, because it’s something that’s like, why would you do that? Why would anybody do that? Good, that’s why I’m doing it.
“(The fear of just seeing needles) That’s the point. If you’re sitting at home, you’re already getting uneasy, which we have so many little, small things that make people uneasy.
“I knew a syringe would make people feel uneasy. (It went through your cheek.) Yeah, all the way through. I think I still have the needle.”
Strickland had previously pointed out that the match was unsanctioned, sharing a variety of images, including the one with a syringe through his cheek, on social media.
During the interview, Strickland would also reveal how John Cena’s mindset in WWE has informed his own relationship with AEW owner Tony Khan.
