WWE Stars To Undergo Name Changes

With new stars commonly undergoing a WWE name change upon debut, there are some current stars who may be set for a change as well.

From stars that have been long absent due to injury to others who could use a refresh of their character by way of returning to a former ring name, there are a good number of WWE stars who could find themselves undergoing a name change.

Here are eight WWE stars that could undergo name changes in the near future.

8. Finn Balor

With the Judgment Day continually on the brink of collapse, the group’s demise would actually be a great catalyst to a brand new iteration of Finn Balor.

While he has been through a few variations of his character in WWE, it would be intriguing to see him return to a vintage iteration.

If he were to resurrect his previous NJPW persona Prince Devitt, even in name only, it could be a chance for a fun throwback as well as an intriguing partnership possibility.

Alluding to the Bullet Club Days, Devitt could certainly find himself joining forces with the wrestler who took over his role in the NJPW faction back in the day – AJ Styles.

7. Bron Breakker

Perhaps a name change that will be reserved for a future major event, many WWE fans continue to hope that there is an alternate name in the future for Bron Breakker.

Since WWE is openly acknowledging the connection to his Steiner roots at this point – as well as the fact his cousin Brock Rechsteiner has also signed a WWE NIL deal – perhaps taking over the Steiner surname on TV will happen in the future.

The same applies for Uriah Connors (son of Fit Finlay) as well as Charlie Dempsey (son of William Regal) – with each being theoretically able to utilize their famous surnames.

Another NXT star – Lexis King – wrestled in the past in AEW under the name Brian Pillman Jr. in homage to his famous father.

6. Omos

As Omos has been absent from WWE TV since the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 40 in 2024, he could use a major re-introduction to audiences.

While he had previously been affiliated with MVP and AJ Styles, with Omos showing off his friendly and fun personality in real life in media appearances, perhaps he is destined for a more reality based gimmick.

Given his incredible intriguing actual backstory – having moved from Lagos, Nigeria on a basketball scholarship as a teen but with the rest of him family remaining back in Africa – there is a lot more about Omos to be explored on TV.

While for some stars an iteration of their actual names might be a better fit – Omos’ real life name is Tolulope (Jordan) Omogbehin – but some variation to refresh his character could be perfect.

5. Alba Fyre

While Piper Niven had been renamed Doudrop, she was able to re-brand back to her former NXT UK moniker, so perhaps the same could be said for Alba Fyre.

After competing in NXT under the name Kay Lee Ray, the name was later changed to Alba Fyre.

Since Fyre’s new name seemingly fit well with her Unholy Union tag team gimmick at the time with Isla Dawn, it stuck with her on the main roster.

However, if Fyre were to eventually split from her current position in the Secret Hervice – as a backup to Chelsea Green along with Piper Niven – it would be a great time to either go back to her old name or pick up a brand new moniker entirely.

4. Kiana James

After having been out of action for over a year, upon her return, it could be time for a name change for Kiana James.

While she was first introduced to the main roster without a major overhaul from her time in NXT – certainly things have gotten more competitive in the women’s division as of late.

After having found success in NXT, James wasn’t able to make much of an impact in her initial main roster run before an untimely injury.

Maybe giving her a new name and a slightly updated character could bring her back to life on the main roster upon her eventual return.

3. Kit Wilson

Recently, Kit Wilson was on TV poised for singles action on SmackDown against Aleister Black, but instead he was attacked by Ron Killings who subsequently called out John Cena.

However, with the appearance came the official announcement from WWE that Wilson’s Pretty Deadly tag team partner Elton Prince had recently picked up an injury and was out of action.

Wilson recently featured in the long awaited WWE debut of Hikuleo, losing to the former NJPW star in a dark match.

Perhaps set to spend some time as a singles performer in Prince’s absence, Wilson could adopt a different name and persona in the interim.

2. El Hijo del Vikingo

After WWE acquired AAA, there have been several of the Mexico based promotion’s top stars featured recently, albeit under their existing ring names.

While El Hijo del Vikingo is just being introduced to the WWE audience, it would make sense for his name to undergo a classic trim.

With ‘El Hijo del’ meaning “the son of”, the addition is meaningful but also not vital in explaining this particular wrestler’s lineage.

Cutting his name for WWE purposes to simply Vikingo wouldn’t negate honoring the Luchador’s heritage but rather to make it a little snappier for merchandise.

1. Tonga Loa

While the idea could go for either of the currently absent Bloodline members, Tonga Loa is arguably more in need of a slight character refresh.

With both Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa out of action at the minute with injury, it depends which one is set to return first and where they are set to align regarding the current Bloodline feud.

If Solo Sikoa was to “force” either Tama Tonga or Tonga Loa to take the WWE trademarked name Caesar Sikoa to pledge their allegiance, it could be a really interesting storyline detail that ended up being a mostly temporary name change.

While Tama Tonga has a clear catchphrase and makes more sense to stay aligned with Fatu, Tonga Loa could become the latest member of the Bloodline to capture fans’ attention by being treated poorly by Solo Sikoa.
