With WWE SummerSlam 2025 fast approaching, there have already been some matches that were originally planned but have since been canceled.
From plans that needed to be scrapped due to injury to others that shifted more organically due to fan response, there have been some interesting changes already revealed.
Here are seven WWE SummerSlam 2025 matches that ended up getting canceled.
7. Alexa Bliss vs. Charlotte Flair

While the tag team alliance between Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair was reportedly planned on being very short-term – leading to a bout between the duo at WWE SummerSlam – something else happened.
After their appearance at WWE Evolution demonstrated audiences going wild for the pair together, they have continued as a tag team.
The duo are still set for a match on the SummerSlam card, but instead of facing each other, they’re challenging for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Bliss & Flair will face off against Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez on Saturday night for the first-ever two night SummerSlam.

6. Roman Reigns vs. Bron Breakker

Roman Reigns was out of action in WWE from the Raw after WrestleMania 41 until making a recent return on Raw in July.
While he was written off TV after an attack at the hands of Bron Breakker, it seemed likely that the pair were headed for a one-on-one bout.
Reports have noted that there were different matches originally set for SummerSlam including one that would have seen Reigns seek vengeance against specifically Breakker.
With that singles match likely to still set to occur at some point in the future, the battle for top dog will just have to wait, as it’ll instead be a tag team match with Reigns teaming with Jey Uso against Breakker and Bronson Reed.

5. Jey Uso vs. Bronson Reed

Another match that was reportedly cancelled is a singles bout between Jey Uso and Bronson Reed.
With Bronson Reed continuing to be out for blood, Jey Uso has gotten tangled up in a feud with Seth Rollins’ faction in Rollins’ absence.
Instead, the two cancelled matches were combined together for a big match on SummerSlam Saturday on August 2.
Roman Reigns will team up with Jey Uso to take on the team of Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker.

4. Seth Rollins vs. GUNTHER

With Seth Rollins taken out of action due to injury, there was likely to have been some SummerSlam plan for him as well.
Given the way that the opponent for GUNTHER was determined after Saturday Night’s Main Event, there may have been different plans for Rollins for the first-ever two night event.
After winning a gauntlet match on WWE Raw, CM Punk became the number one contender to GUNTHER’s World Championship at the event instead.
While Rollins continues to hold the Money in the Bank contract, the custom briefcase is being carried on TV by Paul Heyman.

3. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley

While there is still an Intercontinental Championship match for Becky Lynch at SummerSlam – it will be against familiar opponent Lyra Valkyria.
With some reports that the original plan was to have Bayley take on Becky Lynch at SummerSlam for the Women’s Intercontinental Title, it would not end up that way.
Bayley would take a loss to Valkyria in a two out of three falls match on the July 14 edition of WWE Raw to determine who would face Lynch at SummerSlam.
With SummerSlam marking the fourth match PLE over the last four PLEs for Lynch and Valkyria, hopefully the women’s Intercontinental Championship can move on from SummerSlam into new & fresh feuds.

2. Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez vs. The Bella Twins

Before Liv Morgan picked up an injury and subsequently was taken out of action for the summer, it seemed as though she was poised for a big program.
Seemingly set to face off against Nikki Bella, Morgan was also still holding one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Raquel Rodriguez which seemed to tease an intriguing prospect of the return of both Bella Twins.
WWE Evolution has since come and gone without any Brie Bella sightings and the new Judgment Day duo of Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez are set to face Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam.
Morgan remains out of action due to a shoulder injury without a clear timetable for return.

1. El Grande Americano vs. Rey Mysterio

One possible match that has been plagued by injury is that of Rey Mysterio settling his score with allegedly faux-luchador, El Grande Americano.
After the bout was deferred from WrestleMania after Mysterio was pulled from action due to a groin injury, it was seemingly set to be re-scheduled for SummerSlam.
With reports noting that Rey Mysterio could be ready for a return in August, Chad Gable has now picked up an injury and is out of action.
While Ludwig Kaiser is currently the one occupying the role of El Grande Americano in Gable’s absence, he has been feuding with LWO member Dragon Lee, so potentially there is still a match left to be added to the card.
