With WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event set to air live on NBC and Peacock on May 24, there have been some matches fans have been anticipating that aren’t on the card.

From some that seemed likely to be happening but are now in limbo, to others set to take place later down the line – here are some big WWE matches that aren’t taking place this Saturday in Tampa.

Here are eight WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event matches that ended up not happening.

8. GUNTHER Vs. Jey Uso

WWE's GUNTHER & Jey Uso

After Jey Uso captured the WWE World Championship from GUNTHER at WrestleMania 41, the former champ made it clear that he wasn’t giving up – but he was willing to wait for his rematch.

Instead, GUNTHER has noted that he will face whoever is champion on the June 9 episode of Raw – but that doesn’t mean that Jey Uso is without a match on the network special.

Instead, Jey Uso will be taking on Logan Paul at Saturday Night’s Main Event in what will be Jey’s second World Title defense.

Paul has popped up and ambushed Uso with his signature punch on multiple occasions – so fans have to tune in this Saturday to find out if the social media star will become the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

7. IYO SKY Vs. Rhea Ripley

The WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY has soldiered on since successfully taking on both Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 41, knocking off Roxanne Perez and Giulia in recent weeks.

However with the bigger platform that the Saturday Night’s Main Event specials have, it would have made sense to see two of WWE’s top female stars go head-to-head, especially with no women’s matches on the card.

Even a match that ended in disqualification would have been better than nothing – especially if it included an interference from the returning Asuka or some other storyline shenanigans.

With the status of the Damage CTRL alliance unknown now that Kairi Sane is back – perhaps an appearance in a backstage segment at the event will clear things up for good.

6. John Cena Undisputed WWE Championship Defense

With a limited number of dates left on his schedule of appearances in WWE, John Cena will be having a match on NBC for the first time since the last return of Saturday Night’s Main Event from 2006-2008.

While the match came about after R-Truth interfered at Backlash 2025, there is an important caveat, as it would later be confirmed that Cena vs. Truth at Saturday Night’s Main Event would not be for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Leaving the door open for a number of potential surprise attacks aimed at Cena, it remains to be seen if it will be Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton or someone else entirely will show up for some revenge on The Last Real Champion.

With The Rock remaining absent from WWE TV since Elimination Chamber, fans have been awaiting some kind of on-screen interaction between The Final Boss and Cena… Something that would be perfect for Saturday night on NBC.

5. Roman Reigns & CM Punk Vs. Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Seth Rollins will be teaming with Bron Breakker to take on CM Punk – and an unlikely ally in Sami Zayn.

With no announced appearance for Roman Reigns, it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the Tribal Chief makes an appearance for the show.

With Punk and Zayn’s relationship on thin ice, it seems unlikely they knock off the new unit of Breakker and Rollins, and given Breakker’s recent mean streak, there’s every chance a post-match beatdown on both men could also take place.

While there’s every possibility we don’t see Reigns again until deep into the Summer, The OTC coming to the aid of both Zayn and, surprisingly Punk would set up some intriguing possibilities.

4. Zelina Vega Vs. Chelsea Green

After Chelsea Green was crowned the first ever women’s United States Champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, she would finally lose it at the SmackDown after WrestleMania.

With Zelina Vega capturing the title from Green, she has yet to defend her United States Championship since the win – seemingly creating an opportunity for a rematch at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

While an addition to the card for the event could always be announced, it seems unlikely that it goes beyond the four matches already confirmed to take place.

Perhaps a big bout for the United States Championship titles (both men’s and women’s) are waiting for SummerSlam in August, it remains to be seen.

3. Lyra Valkyria Vs. Becky Lynch

The feud between Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch has continued after the pair initially joyfully reunited at WrestleMania 41 – only for things to fall apart when Lynch turned on Valkyria the following night on Raw.

After Becky’s post-match attack on Lyra after their singles bout for the Intercontinental Championship, there was nothing announced for Saturday Night’s Main Event, but their feud is clearly not through.

On this week’s Raw, Lyra cost Becky her qualifying match to enter the Money in the Bank ladder match next month.

While their feud seems poised to continue, it seemingly won’t include an appearance on Saturday Night’s Main Event, which currently only features four matches.

2. Jade Cargill Vs. Naomi

With Tiffany Stratton able to best Nia Jax to retain her title on last week’s SmackDown, she still has a pair of foes that are bonded by their quest to take her down.

While they are both targeting Stratton’s WWE Women’s Championship – it is also clear that Jade and Naomi will continue to fight each other as well, with a WrestleMania 41 rematch seemingly on the cards.

While WWE fans patiently await the potential for the second installment of Jade versus Naomi, it is much more likely for a major event.

With the upcoming first-ever two night SummerSlam set for August 2 and Sunday August 3, 2025 – perhaps we’ll see these two tangle then or at next month’s Money in the Bank PLE.

1. Jacob Fatu Vs. LA Knight Vs. Solo Sikoa

WWE Bloodline member Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu

With Jacob Fatu winning the United States Championship at WrestleMania 41, it seemed inevitable that Solo Sikoa would turn on The Samoan Werewolf out of jealousy.

But instead of using a debuting interloper in Jeff Cobb (later renamed JC Mateo) to take out Fatu, the pair actually helped Jacob retain his title. On last week’s SmackDown Sikoa called out Fatu for not proclaiming his love for him in the same tone as he had in the past – with a tense face-off between the two being interrupted by LA Knight.

With LA Knight intent on recapturing the United States Championship, Fatu already has his hands full despite the conflict within the new Bloodline remaining ever present.

Given the pace of storytelling over the Triple H era of WWE TV, the culmination of this feud isn’t likely until a major event in the future – possibly SummerSlam or even later.
