Sami Zayn is no stranger to factions and could formalize his own after WWE Crown Jewel on November 7 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A former member of The Bloodline, Sami Zayn goes up against Roman Reigns to determine the WWE Crown Jewel Champion.
With Reigns very much aware of The 946 and the threat that they pose, it’s Sami Zayn who could capitalize on that situation, but what comes next may be the making of the Undisputed WWE Champion:
Sami Zayn & The 946
An alliance of convenience, it’s not impossible to picture The 946 and Sami Zayn teaming up to challenge The Bloodline at Survivor Series: WarGames, regardless of the outcome of WWE Crown Jewel.
For Zayn, the rivalry with Reigns likely goes beyond titles, with The OTC being emphatic in his assertion that he is the top star, no matter what championship he holds.
Taking their bitter feud to WarGames, with Zayn standing beside a faction hellbent on the destruction of The Bloodline and Royce Keys eyeing Roman Reigns is an ideal direction.
The Crown Jewel of WWE
Assuming it is Zayn who leaves Riyadh as WWE Crown Jewel Champion, the title could be given further meaning on his shoulders.
Zayn has formed an alliance with Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae over recent months, with the recent Undisputed WWE Championship match against Trick Williams becoming a no-disqualification one after the formerly horizontally prone star dragged the referee from the ring.
Formalizing Zayn, Gargano and LeRae into a faction, based around the leader’s standing as the Crown Jewel of WWE, would offer an opportunity for them to continue their heelish ways, with the whole “ride or die” mentality maintained for those involved.
Expanding the faction
Gargano’s months of planking ended with a promise from Zayn that the prone star would get the first shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship should CM Punk lose the match on the Mexico City episode of WWE SmackDown.
Zayn would, indeed, win that match on September 11, overcoming a challenge from Kevin Owens the following week, with October 26 seeing that star defend against Je’Von Evans on WWE Raw and the most recent outing being the victory over Trick Williams.
During October, Gargano would team with Zayn on SmackDown, although they’re yet to have that singles match for the title.
Such an offer is, however, something that Zayn could use to expand the faction around him, with many stars no doubt interesting in the possibility of a title shot.
There could be bold swings to be made, with Zayn approaching the likes of Finn Balor, Randy Orton, or Kevin Owens, only to be dismissed outright.
More accessible names could include both members of Fraxiom, particularly given the mixed success of Nathan Frazer and Axiom, or perhaps Ricky Saints. Targeting main roster stars yet to capture titles on SmackDown (or Raw, for that matter) with a promise of baked-in prominence thanks to the Undisputed WWE Championship that Zayn will only deliver at the right moment, which never seems to come.
Ride or Die
Having woken up recently, it’s only a matter of time before Johnny Gargano sees what’s actually happening when it comes to Sami Zayn. The same would be true of anyone else he recruits to his cause. The ‘cult of personality’ only goes so far, unless you happen to be CM Punk.
Anyone joining Zayn wouldn’t be the first to be sold a false promise, and it’s a story that many fans will no doubt be able to relate to, whether through the lens of professional wrestling or real life.
Zayn has shown he’s a master storyteller, winning over ‘doubters’ during his current run, and this would be an opportunity for the star to become the head of a table of his own, believing himself to be the next Roman Reigns.
