WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis continues to be rumored for an in-ring return – particularly after tangling with Randy Orton… again.
Perhaps in need of a sabbatical from his GM duties entirely, or if he needs some time off, never fear because there are numerous choices for a substitute if necessary.
Here are five stars that WWE could utilize to replace Nick Aldis as SmackDown General Manager.
5. The Undertaker

Showcasing his abilities as a mentor on the A&E reality competition series WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats), The Undertaker would make a really entertaining GM.
A potentially unlikely source of pure comedy, The Undertaker could easily fill in for Nick Aldis.
Can you imagine The Undertaker having to negotiate match plans with Chelsea Green and Piper Niven? Would Randy Orton be hitting Taker with errant RKOs? The possibilities for hijinks are endless.
Chances are The Undertaker would not want to continue in the role beyond about one episode of SmackDown, but it would be really fun to see him try and control the chaos.

4. Kevin Owens

Someone who would make a legendary authority figure is currently out of action due to injury – Kevin Owens.
While Owens is out of action due to a neck injury, his return timeline remains unknown – or even if he’ll return to in-ring competition at all.
However, making the decision not to resume wrestling would definitely not preclude Owens from being an on-screen authority figure, a role that he would be excellent in.
Already known for calling out inconsistencies in storylines as well as his ability to improv hilarious lines, Owens is the perfect choice for a future SmackDown GM.

3. Mickie James

If WWE needed to find a replacement SmackDown GM for Nick Aldis, there would be an opportunity to do something memorable.
Even if only needed for a short time, Aldis’ real-life wife and WWE legend Mickie James could step into the role.
Able to hold grudges on behalf of her other half, James could give particularly Randy Orton an incredibly hard time in her run with the reins.
With rumors that an Evolution 2 PLE could be happening in July 2025, hopefully James makes an appearance on-screen in WWE regardless of the capacity.

2. William Regal

One much beloved on-screen authority figure in the history of WWE is William Regal.
Well regarded for his on-screen and backstage contributions, Regal’s presence comes with immediate respect from the audience and bringing a serious tone to the role.
While Regal has been sparse on TV since his return to WWE after his stint in AEW, it would be great to see him mixing it up with the characters on-screen again in some capacity.
Meanwhile, the rarely showcased mischievous version of William Regal would also make an exceptional GM – albeit more committed to creating chaos rather than calming down concerns.

1. Ava

With perpetual discussions of nepotism in WWE, there’s an option to actually lean into that and make The Rock’s real life daughter Ava a heel authority figure on the main roster.
While Ava is currently still the NXT General Manager, she could definitely end up having a bigger role in the future including a move to the main roster in a similar position.
Able to bring together a lot of storylines, Ava as a replacement GM for Nick Aldis – even if only for a temporary basis – would be a savvy way to connect NXT and the main roster.
It would be a pretty intriguing long-term story to tell if Ava had essentially been a secret agent in NXT for The Rock and Paul Heyman all along!
