While AEW’s 2025 has largely went by without the addition of former WWE talents to the roster, that’s not to say there won’t be some major arrivals before the year’s end.

From legends potentially departing WWE in the next six months to big free agent names who have yet to be swooped up – there are some solid options for Tony Khan to consider.

Here are nine WWE legends to potentially join AEW.

9. AJ Styles

One legend from professional wrestling that many fans have hoped would embark on a run in AEW is AJ Styles.

While Styles has recently been involved in a feud with Dominik Mysterio – Styles has yet to claim victory over “Dirty Dom”, and it seems as if his chase to win the Intercontinental Title is over.

With some mystery surrounding when AJ Styles current WWE contract might be up – there are reports suggesting it could be as soon as February 2026.

While Styles has previously stated his current deal would be his last in wrestling, a switch to AEW for one last year could be the perfect way to tie a knot on his legendary career.

8. Brie Bella

While WWE fans have rejoiced at the returns of both Nikki Bella and AJ Lee – some continue to wonder about Brie Bella.

Although the WWE Hall of Famer has clarified that she is definitely not waiting by the phone for a call from WWE to return all day long – she would be open to it should the opportunity arise.

However with the war seemingly heating up again between WWE and AEW, particularly in light WWE’s recent efforts to counterprogram AEW – Triple H could potentially be too late.

With her husband Bryan Danielson not likely to be going anywhere, Tony Khan could potentially pick up Brie as an on-air host in lieu of an in-ring return, able to join real-life pal Renee Paquette on the pre-show panel to provide analysis.

7. Shinsuke Nakamura

One huge name that may  get picked up by AEW after his current WWE contract expires is Shinsuke Nakamura.

Last in action in WWE during the King Of The Ring 2025 first round four-way back in May, Nakamura’s return date is currently a mystery.

While he has accomplished a lot in his storied career thus far, it may be that the 45 year-old Nakamura could be looking to wrap up his in-ring career sometime this decade.

Potentially looking for more intriguing bouts than the PG WWE is able to offer, Shinsuke Nakamura could return to action in AEW, which could then lead to a return to NJPW as well.

6. Beth Phoenix

While she does lend her voice to the beginning of Cope’s entrance theme, Beth Phoenix has yet to appear on-screen in AEW.

However that could potentially change if she were to join AEW – making an ideal fit for the commentary team.

Possibly lending her voice for pay-per-views, Phoenix could add not only the perspective of another in-ring veteran but that of a female trailblazer.

Also able to end up mixing it up physically if necessary, it would still be iconic to see a mixed tag match featuring Beth Phoenix and Adam Copeland in the ring together in AEW.

5. Ronda Rousey

Recently popping back up in pro wrestling headlines for comments related to her time in WWE, Rousey also had some very positive things to say about AEW’s Jon Moxley, noting that his willingness to help Marina Shafir is the true spirit of the business in her eyes.

After having made an appearance in ROH with Shafir in the past, Ronda Rousey would be a major deal for AEW – even if she didn’t technically have a full match.

Bringing her mainstream name recognition to the brand, Rousey’s appearance could end up drawing eyes that wouldn’t normally otherwise hear about AEW.

With Rousey speaking on her disappointment that a storyline with Shafir, Shayna Baszler and fellow MMA Horsewoman Jessamyn Duke never came to pass in WWE, perhaps she could get her wish in AEW?

4. Mick Foley

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley

One of the most beloved characters in all of professional wrestling, there could be no bigger get for AEW than Mick Foley.

Regardless of his ability to compete in the ring, Foley remains a respected and compelling performer.

Able to bring both comedic and serious acting chops to the table when necessary, Foley would be an amazing addition to any on-screen group.

If nothing else, Tony Khan should immediately appoint Mick Foley as AEW’s official Santa Claus every Holiday season – which would of course irritate MJF to no end and lead to some hilarious segments between the pair.

3. Shane McMahon

Last year, Shane McMahon and Tony Khan had a meeting to discuss the possibility of McMahon joining AEW.

They seemed to have very different ideas about what that would look like, and nothing ended up coming of it.

However, McMahon still hasn’t returned to WWE since then, meaning the door might still be open.

If AEW is looking for a headline, there wouldn’t be many bigger than a McMahon joining the company.

2. Goldberg

It’s no secret that Tony Khan wanted Goldberg to be part of AEW.

Goldberg himself has been vocally against that idea, and up to his WWE retirement, very much seemed to prefer WWE.

However, with how his retirement went down, including his speech being cut off after 30 seconds, he wasn’t happy and may want a better chance to go out on his own terms – and of course, another payday.

If Goldberg ever changes his mind and wants to try out something in AEW, even just an appearance rather than any more matches, Tony Khan would likely be happy to have him.

1. Lita

WWE legend Lita

WWE Hall of Famer Lita had a decision to make a couple of years ago between WWE and AEW.

She ultimately chose WWE, and had a short run that included becoming Women’s Tag Team Champion with Becky Lynch.

However, she’s been absent from more recent editions of things like Evolution for the past couple of years.

If AEW becomes an option again, there might be a possibility that she signs with the promotion as the women’s division continues to evolve.
