WWE WrestleMania 42 is fast approaching and the lineup is taking shape, but there could be so much more that may take place at ‘The Show of Shows.’
There could be some legendary stars who come back and have a notable return in Las Vegas this April.
From WWE Hall of Famers to recently retired stars, these legends could add quite a lot to the mix at Mania.
Here are seven WWE legends to potentially return at WrestleMania 42.
7. Trish Stratus

Back at WWE Evolution 2025, Tiffany Stratton defeated Trish Stratus to retain the WWE Women’s Championship.
Ever since this loss, Stratus has been absent from WWE television in the months that have followed.
Considering her performance on that night, it does not seem out of the realm of possibility that Stratus could make a return sometime soon.
Having Trish return at WrestleMania 42 could see her set up a massive dream match with the likes of IYO SKY, Giulia or Alexa Bliss.

6. Paige

In March 2025, Saraya revealed that she had departed All Elite Wrestling after a three-year run with the promotion.
After leaving the company, Saraya made it clear that she was more than open to making a return to her Paige persona in her previous home of WWE.
Recently, fans have seen videos of Paige training inside the squared circle to prepare for an in-ring return.
With WrestleMania 42 on the horizon, it would make sense for Paige to come back on ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All.’

5. Chris Jericho

Over the past year, there has been a lot of talk and conversation in regards to the future of Chris Jericho.
While he has spent the last six years with All Elite Wrestling, Jericho has been absent from the company’s programming since April 2025.
In the midst of this absence, Jericho’s AEW contract is set to expire in the near future, which has led to some expressed interest from WWE for a potential return.
Jericho coming back to his former home seems inevitable and could happen as soon as WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

4. The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff Hardy)

In 2025, The Hardy Boyz made their return to WWE and made their presence felt in the working relationship with their home promotion of TNA Wrestling.
Coming back to WWE, Matt and Jeff Hardy were able to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship and become double champions, while holding the TNA World Tag Team Title.
Making it no secret that they are open to making another return to the company, The Hardy Boyz could be back in play sometime in 2026.
Considering their appearance in the upcoming WWE 2K26 video game, it feels like fans could see The Hardys make their anticipated comeback at WrestleMania 42 this April.

3. John Cena

At the December 13 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, GUNTHER defeated John Cena in the 17-time WWE World Champion’s final match of his career.
After saying goodbye to the company, Cena made it clear that he had re-signed a contract to become an ambassador for WWE.
Considering the reports of struggles with ticket sales for ‘The Show of Shows,’ it does not seem impossible for Cena to make his return for Mania this April.
Cena returning could happen and may present any number of different options, such as being a special guest referee or inducting someone like AJ Styles into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 42 weekend.

2. Stone Cold Steve Austin

At WWE WrestleMania 41, Stone Cold Steve Austin made a surprise appearance to announce the two-night attendance for the event.
With this year’s Mania once again taking place in Las Vegas, it seems more than possible to see Austin make his presence felt for the fans in attendance.
Considering the next episode of Monday Night Raw takes place on March 16 or 3:16 Day, fans could see ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ appear on the road to Mania.
Austin returning for WrestleMania 42 could help to bolster ticket sales and give him an opportunity to interact with some of the top stars on the roster today.

1. The Rock

Over the past two years, The Rock has played key roles in the build to WrestleMania, helping to garner more attention for the biggest show of the year.
In 2024, The Rock created ‘The Final Boss’ character that worked alongside Roman Reigns and The Bloodline to become the last hurdle Cody Rhodes had to overcome to “finish his story.”
Then, The Rock helped John Cena turn heel for the first time in 20 years as he looked to beat Rhodes and become a 17-time world champion in 2025.
With mere weeks until WrestleMania 42, WWE’s best bet to increase interest in ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’ may be to have ‘The Final Boss’ make his return for a third straight year.
