There are some legends that WWE fans would love to see return to company to have one last run before they hang up their boots for good.
With some currently available as free agents, there are others who are tied to other companies like AEW right now, but could potentially be leaving soon which may lead them back to WWE.
Here are six WWE legends who could return to the company.
6. Chris Jericho
Although Chris Jericho has been with AEW since the beginning of the company in 2019, he has recently softened his previous stance on the prospect of a WWE return, seemingly more open to it now than he has been at any time over the past few years.
Jericho has recently opened the door on the possibility, noting that “of course” he would “consider” a return to WWE.
Many of Jericho’s most beloved character iterations have occurred in WWE, while the current AEW audience is not reacting to him with the same adoration.
A return to WWE could open up a lot of possibilities for stories left to be told and possibly even a proper WWE send-off if he chooses to retire.

5. Billy Gunn
Billy Gunn is still an active wrestler, but in reality, he is absolutely a WWE legend that fans would love to see return to the company.
While Gunn made an appearance in the recent WWE 2K25 release, it doesn’t necessarily mean he is heading back to WWE.
Other stars like Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts have performer contracts with AEW while also being under a WWE legends deal for licensing and merchandising.
The exact contract details for Billy Gunn (as well as sons Austin and Colten Gunn) are not concretely known, but there could be a chance for an iconic return down the line given his affiliation via the aforementioned legends deal.

4. Jim Ross
Good ol’ JR is still signed with All Elite Wrestling but he remains beloved by WWE faithful.
While Jim Ross still makes periodic appearances for big matches in AEW, his appearance schedule is fairly limited.
The iconic voice of the WWE Attitude Era and beyond, JR remains very popular, and it would be amazing to see him return to the company.
He wouldn’t need to have some huge travel schedule either – WWE could even just let JR do voiceovers, lending his iconic narrations to modern day moments.

3. Beth Phoenix
Although speculation about Beth Phoenix potentially joining AEW has been swirling since her husband Adam Copeland (Edge) signed, she has yet to appear.
While AEW may not be a fit, Phoenix would definitely be a great addition to any backstage role working with the next generation of wrestlers.
Since there have been reports that WWE will be hosting the second edition of Evolution, the all-female premium live event, perhaps she could make an appearance.
Having been on commentary for the first edition of the show, it would be great to see Beth Phoenix back in WWE.

2. Paige (Saraya)
After spending the last three years in AEW under her real name Saraya, former WWE star Paige is now a free agent.
While her in-ring career in WWE was cut short due to injury, she had resumed wrestling in AEW, capturing the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Recently commenting that she’s hoping to train with Natalya at the Dungeon training facility, perhaps Paige could make a WWE return.
It would be great to see Paige come back to WWE and experience matches that didn’t exist for women during her last run like the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber.

1. Matt and Jeff Hardy
While the Hardy Boyz have made recent appearances on WWE NXT, fans are still hopeful to see more from the legendary brothers.
The pair continue to hold the TNA Wrestling World Tag Team Championship, reportedly contracted with the company until November 2025.
However, that hasn’t stopped rumors that Matt and Jeff Hardy could be headed for a WWE main roster feud this Summer by way of the partnership between WWE and TNA.
The Hardys should re-sign with WWE and be able to give one real final farewell to fans before future retirement.
