With John Cena continuing his WWE farewell tour on Saturday Night’s Main Event against R-Truth, his days are very much numbered.
The final match for John Cena is set to occur in Boston in December, reportedly at a future edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event – giving a massive audience to whoever is set to face the retiring legend.
Here are six possible final WWE opponents for John Cena.
6. Cody Rhodes

While their build to WrestleMania 41 was intriguing, the match finish between John Cena and Cody Rhodes left some fans looking for more answers.
After Cena defeated Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, Rhodes disappeared from WWE TV.
While seemingly poised to make a return ahead of or at the upcoming WWE Money in the Bank PLE on June 7, there is still a lot of ground to cover ahead of Cena’s expected last match in December.
It is unlikely that Cena and Cody are done for good, so we could potentially see the slow burn of this dynamic all the way until the very end of the farewell tour to pay off.

5. CM Punk

John Cena himself has noted that among his greatest opponents in his career is CM Punk.
Although their interaction during the Elimination Chamber was brief, it was meaningful – showing the first in-ring glimpse of Cena’s new heel persona before it was revealed – as Cena was gleeful despite capitalizing off of Punk getting screwed by Seth Rollins.
With the deep history between the two, hopefully they properly run it back at some point in Cena’s farewell tour.
With certainly a deep well of emotional content to draw from, it would be fascinating to see CM Punk as John Cena’s last opponent.

4. John Cena

While John Cena may be reportedly set for his last match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC – it doesn’t mean that the match will necessarily be in the standard form.
One career moment that fans often cite as some of Cena’s most interesting WWE work prior to this farewell tour was the Firefly Funhouse match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36.
With the ability for Cena to cinematically examine his own past as well as his own inner struggles as a character, WWE could demonstrate to a wide audience the evolution of professional wrestling storytelling through the lens of Cena’s career.
While it is unlikely the cinematic presentation would be the real ‘last match’, it would still make for great TV.

3. The Rock

There is definitely still something unresolved with The Rock and John Cena after the latter’s stunning turn at Elimination Chamber.
While The Final Boss wasn’t directly involved in Cena’s WrestleMania 41 victory, the now 17-time champ did get an assist from Travis Scott.
Potentially setting up the return of the rapper in the future, it remains to be seen whether or not The Rock will turn on Cena ahead of his actual retirement.
It may be a little unlikely that The Rock gets his hands dirty directly, but it seems very likely he will be involved in some way in Cena’s last match.

2. Joe Hendry

If there was any intention on using Cena’s last opponent to be a launching point for a new WWE star, there is a solid case to made for Joe Hendry.
While other options are already well established in both WWE and the mainstream, everyone loves a Cinderella sports story.
Given the opportunity to begin to incorporate Hendry slowly over time through the continued partnership with TNA Wrestling, by the time December rolls around, Hendry could very well be a top name in WWE.
In a moment that could capture all of the best parts of pro-wrestling, Hendry could reach the highest of highs in his long and dedicated career.

1. Drew McIntyre

While he’s engaged in a feud with Damian Priest at the minute, surely WWE needs to find a way to bring about John Cena vs. Drew McIntyre before it is time to say goodbye to Cena.
Doing some of the most interesting work of his career, McIntyre would certainly be poised to take his stardom to another level should he end up as John Cena’s final opponent.
McIntyre has already pointedly called out Cena, noting that he has just as many bad memories of Cena as he does about his arch nemesis CM Punk from their earlier career days.
Proving time and time again that he is able to capture the attention and curiosity of the audience, McIntyre could create a major moment for Cena’s final match that leaves fans talking for years to come.
