5. The Rock

While Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock may have met many times in their career in the past – this particular iteration of the duo would be incredible to see.

With their journeys after departing WWE going very different directions, it would be an absolutely iconic showdown with massive mainstream appeal.

Bringing together these two massive stars from the Attitude Era to have one more match would be certain to create buzz and create headlines worldwide.

If “The Final Boss” has taken over the mantle of being the figurehead of authority – seeing the ultimate anti-authority hero Stone Cold cause chaos one more time would be truly legendary.

4. Dominik Mysterio

While Dominik Mysterio currently holds the Intercontinental Championship, a curious thing happened when he captured the title at WrestleMania 41.

After winning, the crowd erupted with such jubilation that Dom even ran back out to the ring to continue his celebration.

With the moment clearly showing that the audience very much loves to hate Dom, it could bring about the next compelling chapter of Mysterio’s career to pit him against Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Able to mature into more than just a lovable scoundrel, matching Mysterio with Austin could serve to mature his heel character and start a brand new phase of his career – while also offering an entertaining final program for Stone Cold with a young opponent that could do much of the leg work inside the ring.

3. Chris Jericho

While Chris Jericho remains under contract with AEW right now – there are reports that his contract with the company may be set to expire in December 2025.

Since there is no word whether or not Jericho has signed or will sign a new AEW contract, it is actually totally possible that the former WWE star could make a surprise return in the Royal Rumble 2026 in Riyadh.

Although AEW has been known of late for crafting retirement stories, it seems that WWE could be getting in on the action as well with the high profile farewells for John Cena and Goldberg.

Given his mainstream appeal and nostalgic fan adoration, it actually would make total sense for Jericho to return to WWE with facing Stone Cold Steve Austin as an intriguing possibility.

2. Ricky Saints

While Stone Cold could technically take on The Rock – it could be even more intriguing to see him butt heads with a younger talent who has similar charisma.

If Saints were to align with “The Final Boss” – or any other authority figure for that matter – he could serve as the perfect foil to a returning Stone Cold.

Similarly to how Kevin Owens was able to impress audiences with his ability to go toe-to-toe with Stone Cold, Saints could become an even bigger star after their interactions, regardless of the actual outcome.

Ricky Saints is currently still feuding on NXT but with a call-up in the WWE Draft 2025 seeming likely, this match-up could really come around next year.

1. CM Punk

In a dream match that fans thought they could never see happen – Stone Cold Steve Austin’s last match should be against CM Punk if he truly has one more match left in him.

With CM Punk already being teased as “Mr. TKO” on-screen, it would be legendary to see CM Punk morph into a corporate ally only to be met by the ultimate anti-authority return of Stone Cold.

Given the major mainstream appeal of this duo finally having a match, there wouldn’t need to be a long storyline to make the match compelling.

With a rich history in the industry between the pair and plenty of old material to bring back into the forefront of fans’ minds – there is a lot to work with between the pair of WWE icons.
