Ahead of his participation in the “Last Time Is Now” Tournament, WWE’s Sheamus was ruled out due to a significant shoulder injury that required surgery.
Now out of action since November, fans should expect “The Celtic Warrior” make his return sooner rather than later.
Sheamus returning has many possibilities, which makes the plans being set in place very interesting to explore.
Here are seven potential Sheamus WWE return plans.
7. Challenging Penta To Finally Capture WWE Intercontinental Championship
The one unfinished story for Sheamus in WWE seems to be his quest to finally become the Intercontinental Champion.
While Sheamus has accomplished pretty much everything he can in WWE, he has never been able to capture the IC Title.
“The Celtic Warrior” has had so many memorable matches for the Intercontinental Championship over the years without being able to win the gold.
With Penta now holding the gold, this would make for a highly compelling battle for the IC Championship whenever Sheamus makes his way back to the company.
6. Joining Forces With Finn Balor Against The Judgment Day
Sheamus has found himself opposing The Judgment Day on several different occasions over the past few years.
Recently, The Judgment Day turned their back on Finn Balor after years of disagreements and dissension with Dominik Mysterio.
Balor now finds himself outnumbered by his former stablemates, which could make for an intriguing alliance with his fellow Irishman.
Sheamus returning to align with Balor against The Judgment Day could make for a fascinating story to tell as they try to take down the group once and for all.
5. Rekindling Rivalry With GUNTHER For WrestleMania
Heading into WrestleMania 42, one of the notable omissions when it comes to stories is GUNTHER right now.
Over the past year, “The Ring General” has retired John Cena, Goldberg and AJ Styles, earning the moniker of “The Career Killer.”
Considering how long Sheamus has been in WWE, GUNTHER could look at him as the next legend he needs to put out to pasture.
Sheamus coming back to rekindle his rivalry with GUNTHER would be a guaranteed show stealer if placed on the WrestleMania 42 card and deliver a definitive end to their rivalry that started back in 2022.

4. Reforming A New Version Of The Bar With Rusev
In 2025, Sheamus was embroiled in a feud with his former friend and League of Nations stablemate Rusev.
The two brutes went at it tooth-and-nail in a series of battles that saw Sheamus and Rusev beat the hell out of one another.
While this rivalry came to an end in a Good Ol’ Fashioned Donnybrook Match at WWE Clash In Paris 2025, their story could continue in a different way.
Sheamus returning to make a new version of The Bar alongside Rusev might be the best usage for both men at this stage of their career and become a wonderful addition to the tag team division on Monday Night Raw.
3. Surprise Return At WrestleMania 42
Sheamus coming back into the fold would be a much needed addition to the WWE roster right now.
Returns have become a necessary element that makes WrestleMania one of the biggest shows of the year.
Just last year, Becky Lynch came back for her own triumphant return at WrestleMania 41.
Sheamus returning at Mania could place him directly back into the forefront and potentially see him answering an Intercontinental Championship or United States Championship open challenge at “The Showcase of the Immortals.”

2. Looking For One More Reign As A World Champion
While he has not yet accomplished winning the Intercontinental Championship, Sheamus is a former multi-time world champion.
“The Celtic Warrior” made history when he defeated John Cena to become WWE Champion all the way back in 2009.
Now 17 years later, Sheamus could show that he still has a lot in the tank by becoming a world champion once again.
Whether it be challenging the winner of Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk or Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton, Sheamus could thrust himself right back into the main event picture by going after the top prizes on Monday Night Raw or Friday Night SmackDown.
1. Reuniting With Drew McIntyre As A Heel
Sheamus and Drew McIntyre have a friendship that has existed for the better part of the past two decades.
From their off-screen relationship to their numerous battles inside the squared circle, Sheamus and McIntyre have been linked to one another throughout their careers.
McIntyre finds himself frustrated after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship so close to WrestleMania 42 and now embroiled in a bitter feud with Jacob Fatu.
Needing help against “The Samoan Werewolf,” fans could see McIntyre getting some backup for this current rivalry in the form of a returning “Celtic Warrior” with Sheamus reuniting with his friend as a heel for the first time in years.
