AEW Replacement For Jon Moxley

AEW star Jon Moxley

For nearly a year, Jon Moxley has been both the AEW World Champion and an anchor to the storyline universe within the company.

With the Jon Moxley & The Death Riders having made an impact on stories throughout AEW, whoever is set to replace his main character energy has big shoes to fill.

Here are six AEW stars that could potentially replace Jon Moxley as the anchor to AEW’s biggest storyline.

6. Darby Allin

Making a return at AEW All In Texas, Darby Allin thrilled fans and clearly shocked Jon Moxley.

Bringing with him a video that has to be the only professional wrestling promo ever cut on the top of Mount Everest, Allin would end up descending from the roof of Globe Life Field to lend a hand in fending off the heels.

Given his penchant for daredevil spots and his clearly deep dedication to AEW, Darby Allin is on the list to replace Moxley in the sense of being a go-to reliable performer that Tony Khan can count on.

Able to tell interesting stories with emotional depth, Allin is able to conceivably anchor stories in AEW for years to come.

5. MJF

After capturing a big win at AEW All In Texas – winning the Casino Gauntlet match and therefore a guaranteed future title shot – MJF already had strong words.

Cutting a promo to the camera, MJF reminded fans that he was coming for his rightful spot in AEW – where MJF is the main character.

Definitely able to step into Moxley’s role as the top heel in AEW, MJF could be set for an intriguing new rise to the top.

This time in his pursuit of reclaiming his beloved Triple B (what he called the AEW Title – the Big Burberry Belt), he isn’t alone as a member of the Hurt Syndicate with MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, which could lead to some complicated dynamics.

4. Swerve Strickland

After having a sit-down with Hangman Adam Page and seemingly burying their history (for now at least), Swerve Strickland ended up proving his words through actions.

Being the one to bring a chain to Hangman which Page would use to ultimately achieve victory, Swerve Strickland proved himself to be a reliable character.

While Swerve has definitely already been a main character in AEW, he continues to have the ability to carry forward as a face of the company.

Presumably already primed to anchor storylines for the coming years, Swerve Strickland is definitely able to step up inside and outside of the ring with the reliability of Jon Moxley.

3. Brody King

If AEW needs to build a new King of Violence to replace Jon Moxley, there may be no better choice than Brody King.

With the ability to be incredibly violent, vicious and also a fan favorite, King doesn’t have to be an evil heel up against the top babyfaces to still make a big impact.

Able to occupy the in-between space of being an enjoyable anti-hero, Brody King could conceivably find himself in top feuds within a short period of time – particularly given his history with MJF.

Brody King along with the likes of Mark Briscoe and Eddie Kingston may be able to keep up the bloody brutality in the vein of Jon Moxley.

2. Will Ospreay

AEW star Will Ospreay

In terms of a character who is poised to continue to make a big impact on storylines throughout the company – Will Ospreay seems to be another main character poised to become an anchor.

Having already demonstrated a deep commitment to AEW, Ospreay could easily be considered amongst the top babyfaces for a long time to come.

Able to not only put on predictably unpredictable and enjoyable matches, his sincere promo style is similar to Moxley in that there is a blurred line between fiction and reality.

With Ospreay becoming beloved as a babyface – similarly to past iterations of Jon Moxley in AEW – there is always a chance he could take a dastardly future turn.

1. Kyle Fletcher

If AEW is truly looking to replace Jon Moxley with another talent to reign supreme as a heartless and evil heel – the Protostar Kyle Fletcher could be the guy.

Already hated due to his turn on best friend Will Ospreay and alliance with Don Callis, Kyle Fletcher continues to make enemies with the AEW audience.

Seemingly set to take storyline responsibility for taking out former TNT Champion Adam Cole, it would make sense for Fletcher to continue his dastardly reign of heartless quest for gold.

Able to demonstrate the sociopathy that is a hallmark of Moxley’s heel persona, Fletcher could definitely become the most hated heel in AEW in the near future.
