On the March 13 edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Randy Orton turned heel on Cody Rhodes with a bloody beatdown during their contract signing.
Over the past few weeks, fans have seen Orton on the phone with a mystery caller who made him realize the “killer” he really is.
This has led to a ton of speculation regarding who could Orton’s mystery call become when he is eventually revealed.
Here are eight potential options for Randy Orton’s WWE mystery caller.
8. ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton

On the March 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, Randy Orton was scheduled for an interview with Michael Cole to explain his actions against Cody Rhodes.
During the interview, Orton could be seen talking to someone on the phone who he thanked for providing with the guidance to do what he had to do.
After stating that “wrestling has more than one royal family,” this has led fans to believe it could be someone from Orton’s family on the other side of the phone.
With his father being a WWE Hall of Famer, it makes a ton of sense if this mystery caller was revealed to be “Cowboy” Bob Orton giving his son some advice for his showdown against Rhodes at WrestleMania 42.
7. John Cena

Ahead of last year’s WrestleMania 41, John Cena turned heel on Cody Rhodes himself to set up his Undisputed WWE Championship match at “The Show of Shows.”
Throughout Cena’s career, one of his greatest and most mentioned rivals has to be Randy Orton with the numerous battles they’ve had over the years.
On March 30, Cena announced that he will be the special guest host for WrestleMania 42 after just retiring in December 2025.
Since he will be at the event, Cena could be the person who has become the devil on Orton’s shoulder, guiding him to win his 15th world title at WrestleMania 42.

6. Ted Dibiase Jr.

When Cody Rhodes was in his formative years in WWE, he joined forces with Randy Orton and Ted Dibiase Jr. to form the Legacy.
Over the next year, Orton, Rhodes and Dibiase Jr. ran roughshod over the WWE and had several memorable feuds against the likes of John Cena and D-Generation X.
It was recently revealed that Dibiase Jr. has been acquitted of criminal charges in his case for welfare fraud.
Now that his name is cleared in that criminal case, Dibiase Jr. could be the individual on the phone with Orton, helping to bring back the 2009 version of “The Legend Killer” to defeat their former Legacy stablemate for the Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania 42.
5. Batista

Someone else Randy Orton has plenty of history with from another faction is Batista.
When Orton first got his start in WWE, it was in the Evolution faction alongside Triple H, Ric Flair and Batista.
Over the years, Orton and Batista have developed a rivalry against one another and even traded the WWE Championship at one time.
Now that Batista’s in-ring career is over, Orton could look to him as a voice of reason who may give him the guidance he needs to become a 15-time world champion against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42.

4. Ric Flair

Another Evolution member who could be called upon by Randy Orton as his mystery caller is Ric Flair.
During his early years in WWE, Orton’s first mentor was Ric Flair, who offered his years of wisdom in the wrestling business to “The Legend Killer.”
The two-time WWE Hall of Famer has not been seen on the company’s programming in a number of years since signing with All Elite Wrestling in 2023.
Considering his history with Orton and Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes, Flair is someone who would make a ton of sense to have as the mystery caller here.
3. Shane McMahon

On the March 30 episode of WWE Raw, Stephanie McMahon came out to interrupt Cody Rhodes during his opening promo segment.
McMahon gave some guidance to Rhodes on how diabolical this version of Randy Orton is and what is in store for “The American Nightmare” at WrestleMania 42.
With one McMahon coming out to give some wisdom to Rhodes, it would be fitting if another McMahon was helping Orton all along.
Shane McMahon making his return to be Orton’s mystery caller would be shocking and bring a nice twist to this story come WrestleMania 42.

2. Kevin Owens

Over the past few years, Cody Rhodes has fought side-by-side with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton against the likes of The Bloodline.
However, Owens decided to turn on Rhodes after Cody chose to team with Roman Reigns back at the WWE Bad Blood 2024 premium live event.
This led to KO also turning on Orton along the way and those two men feuding with one another. However, Orton and Owens were not able to settle their score due to KO suffering a serious neck injury that sidelined him for nearly a year now before WrestleMania 41 last year.
Now a year on, it could be Kevin Owens who is on the other side of the phone after Orton has realized that he was right about Rhodes all along.
1. The Rock

Over the last two years, the build to WrestleMania has been centered on the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and The Rock.
In the leadup to WrestleMania 40, The Rock turned heel and became “The Final Boss” as he aligned with Roman Reigns against Rhodes’ quest to “finish his story” and become Undisputed WWE Champion.
Then last year, The Rock tried to get Cody’s soul before he turned him down and was subsequently turned on by John Cena, who beat down Rhodes alongside “The Final Boss” at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025.
Now this year, it could be The Rock as the mystery caller, who is trying to help another legend to beat Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
