Predicting The Next 5 WWE World Heavyweight Champions

Last night’s WWE Raw saw GUNTHER regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso, beginning yet another reign of potential dominance for The Ring General.

While GUNTHER’s identity in WWE is holding championship gold, the company may buck the trend with his second world title reign and have him lose the title before too long.

Here are our predictions for the next five WWE World Heavyweight Champions.

5. Goldberg

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg

Whether fans like it or not, it seems that Goldberg is set for an imminent WWE return already revealing that he is training for a retirement match in 2025.

With the groundwork already seemingly laid for a showdown between Goldberg and GUNTHER – WWE could potentially go all the way and have the match contested for the World Heavyweight Championship.

A loss to Goldberg would be something that few fans would agree with, but much like GUNTHER losing the Intercontinental Title to Sami Zayn and World Title to Jey Uso, The Ring General could use the setback to bounce back stronger – whether that be by demolishing Goldberg in a rematch or moving on to target the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown instead.

Giving Goldberg a huge win would obviously require the Hall of Famer wrestling in more than one match, but when you consider who could potentially step up to challenge him it wouldn’t be the worst plan in the world…

4. Bron Breakker

While Goldberg becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion would be a controversial one to say the least – the move could prove to be a positive one.

Seemingly Goldberg would want his last stint with WWE to be beneficial in some way to the future of the company.

Given the shared use of the Spear finishing move, Bron Breakker’s Goldberg tattoo homage and their close relationship in real life, there are a lot of little details that could be pulled together into a storyline between the two.

Using Goldberg as a transitional champion is a way to move storylines forward as well as put over a young star liek Breakker in a huge way. However Breakker’s reign would come with an eventual twist…

3. Seth Rollins

Since he is still holding the Money in the Bank briefcase – Seth Rollins could prove an ever present threat to Bron Breakker.

While unlikely to occur immediately after an exhausting match against Goldberg to win his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Breakker could eventually get betrayed by Seth Rollins.

There is zero chance that The Visionary is going to be outsmarted to be upstaged by one of his underlings – so if Breakker was to capture the World Heavyweight Championship then jealousy is sure to mount.

Whether it be via a Money in the bank cash-in or otherwise, Seth Rollins vs. Breakker is an inevitability.

2. Roman Reigns

WWE star Roman Reigns

While many would expect Cody Rhodes to dethrone him beforehand, if John Cena is successful in his effort to literally take the Undisputed WWE Championship with him upon his exit from the company in December 2025 – the WWE World Heavyweight Championship would become the most sought after prize.

Having John Cena’s retirement line up nicely with the return to prominence of Roman Reigns – without having to have Roman Reigns actually beat John Cena – is beneficial in many ways.

Being able to jump start a new ‘top title’ on SmackDown breaks any delineation between the rosters’ aims across brands and does away with the pesky ‘Undisputed’ aspect of the current lineage.

Reigns dethroning his Shield brother Seth Rollins would be a perfect way to cap off their story, while also allowing for the biggest possible matchup to take place for the championship at WrestleMania 42.

1. The Rock

The Rock on WWE SmackDown

While The Rock did not appear at WrestleMania 41 – there could be a good reason. There is zero reason why The Final Boss couldn’t insert himself into the Royal Rumble at number 30 in 2026 and zip right to the front of the line.

With the Final Boss having been the one to make the initial announcement regarding the location of WrestleMania 42 (New Orleans although later changed to Las Vegas) perhaps his reappearance is being saved for 2026.

In a new TKO led era of WWE, fans should expect a more grandiose set of expectations in terms of marquee event – and certainly The Final Boss The Rock vs. Roman Reigns would be the iconic showdown. The storyline can figure itself out after Hollywood schedules are locked in place!

While this moment could serve to write Reigns out of storyline again for a spell – keeping in stride with a fairly predictable Roman Reigns off-season at this point – it also paves the way for an eventual showdown between The Final Boss and Cody Rhodes to dominate the Summer of 2026.
