WWE SummerSlam 2025 is now fast approaching with Night of Champions now in the books, having taken place earlier today.

Night of Champions directly set up some matches for SummerSlam, which will be the first ever two-night edition of the event.

Here are several matches we predict will take place at WWE SummerSlam 2025 on August 2 and 3.

John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes – Undisputed WWE Championship

Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and Cody Rhodes

Officially confirmed after Night of Champions is a rematch between John Cena and Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship.

Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring tournament to earn a SummerSlam title shot, while Cena retained the championship against CM Punk to ensure he’s the one defending against Rhodes.

There’s a possibility it could be spun into a multi-man match as Seth Rollins attempted to cash-in which caused a controversial finish, but as things stand officially right now, it’s going to be a WrestleMania rematch between Cena and Rhodes at SummerSlam.

With slight teases from Rhodes of a heel turn, and the crowd coming back around to John Cena, the crowd response leading up to and during the match is sure to be a talking point.

CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins

During the WWE Championship match at Night of Champions between John Cena and CM Punk, Seth Rollins interfered and was clearly attempting to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract.

In the end, he curb stomped Punk but was thrown out of the ring by Cena, who then pinned Punk to retain the title.

Therefore, Rollins directly cost Punk the match, and it’s certainly not the first time that’s been the case.

Rollins and Punk are 1-1 in one-on-one matches since the start of the year, so a rubber match at SummerSlam could settle things for good.

Naomi (c) vs. Jade Cargill – WWE Women’s Championship

Jade Cargill defeated Asuka to win the Queen of the Ring tournament, meaning she’s earned a shot at the WWE Women’s Championship.

In theory, that means ‘officially’, it’s currently Tiffany Stratton vs Jade Cargill at SummerSlam for the title.

However, with Naomi already making several attempts to cash-in Money in the Bank, she could actually do that before SummerSlam comes around, which would set up Naomi vs Cargill as the title match.

An alternative would be for Stratton vs Cargill to take place, with Cargill winning and Naomi cashing in on her afterwards to steal the title, but Naomi vs Cargill as the official match makes sense for a big show like SummerSlam given the history between them.

GUNTHER (c) vs. Sami Zayn – World Heavyweight Championship

GUNTHER is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Goldberg at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.

While there’s a chance Goldberg could pick up the win, it’s officially being advertised as his last match ever, which would imply GUNTHER should emerge the victor and retain his title.

If we are indeed to look past Goldberg, there isn’t really a clear future challenger for GUNTHER’s World Heavyweight Championship right now, other than the looming threat of Money in the Bank holder Seth Rollins, who might be more interested in the Undisputed WWE Title anyway.

Given his win over Karrion Kross at Night of Champion, Zayn could be next in line for GUNTHER, and there would be a chance to call back and play off Zayn beating GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40 last year.

Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair (c) vs. The Bella Twins – Women’s Tag Team Championship

Due to Liv Morgan’s injury, it seems that there needs to be some changes to the future plans for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

With some rumors noting that the return of Nikki Bella to WWE was going to be followed by the return of twin sister Brie, it seemed that the duo could be in the hunt for the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Since Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair have been teasing their own potential “alliance of convenience”, the pair of former champions could make great allies to chase the potentially vacated women’s tag titles – or conversely, topple Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for them.

Paving the way to a fun generational showdown for SummerSlam, the combination of so many top women’s stars in WWE with mainstream recognizability could be ideal for the first-ever two night event.

Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Finn Balor – Intercontinental Championship

While Dominik Mysterio missed meeting AJ Styles at Night of Champions 2025 after picking up a legitimate injury, he is still set to face the Phenomenal One next.

Assuming though that Mysterio retains over Styles, it certainly seems like there is a Judgment Day implosion heading to SummerSlam.

The in-fighting between Mysterio and Finn Balor could come down to an Intercontinental Championship match SummerSlam – or even if Mysterio loses the title before then, perhaps with Balor costing him against Styles, it could still set up mysterio vs Balor.

Exactly how the Judgment Day further disintegrates into this inevitable face-off remains to be seen, but it is certain to make for an exciting match.

Becky Lynch (c) vs. Stephanie Vaquer – Women’s Intercontinental Championship

With Becky Lynch seemingly poised to hold on to the Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw, there are incoming threats that she has yet to meet.

One such threat is Stephanie Vaquer who has recently been called up to the main roster from NXT.

While Lynch vowed to take on top talent in her return, she is already faced with overcoming the force of both Bayley and Lyra Valkyria.

Since that match seems more likely for Evolution, Becky will barely have time to rest up before La Primera comes knocking.

IYO SKY (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley – Women’s World Championship

WWE stars Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair and IYO SKY

In a WrestleMania 41 rematch for the Women’s World Championship, IYO SKY may put her title on the line against both Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair again.

While the build to the match could be between Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY as a singles bout, Belair returning from injury to inject herself into the title match would be a callback to what happened months ago.

Turn about being fair play from Ripley being inserted into SKY and Belair’s WrestleMania 41 bout, the trio could run it back with the roles reversed.

With two nights of SummerSlam this year, Belair could potentially turn heel on night one via this match, then join forces with Naomi on night two – something a number of fans continue to suggest as a potential direction.

The New Day (c) vs. Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. The Usos – World Tag Team Championship

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have continued their reign as World Tag Team Champions on WWE Raw but could be poised to meet some intriguing opponents.

With both Jimmy and Jey Uso currently unoccupied, the Usos could reunite to not only come after their old foes The New Day but also perhaps recruit a third mystery team to join the bout.

While Matt and Jeff Hardy remain in active competition in TNA Wrestling, they have an important upcoming ladder match at Slammiversary which they have teased if they lose, they may retire.

Adding a thunderous surprise return of Matt & Jeff Hardy at SummerSlam could provide the perfect nostalgic pop for night one to keep fans coming back for night two.
