Next WWE Intercontinental Championship challenger after Chad Gable vs. Rey Fenix: Five Raw stars who could be next in line

On the October 12 edition of Monday Night Raw, Chad Gable will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Rey Fenix.

This will mark the third televised defense of this reign for Gable since winning the title at SummerSlam 2026.

Fenix has a good chance to become a double champion after being on a roll over the past few months as the AAA World Cruiserweight Champion, but it should be interesting who could be next in line for a shot regardless of who wins.

Here are five potential next WWE Intercontinental Championship challengers after Chad Gable vs. Rey Fenix.

Ethan Page

Ethan Page has been in the Intercontinental Championship picture since arriving on Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania 42.

After losing to Penta in his title shot at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Page has been trying to get another championship opportunity.

Since Chad Gable won the IC Title, “All Ego” has been a constant thorn in his side.

Page getting the next shot regardless of who wins between Gable and Rey Fenix would make a lot of sense moving forward.

JD McDonagh

While he is a member of The Judgment Day, JD McDonagh is arguably one of the most underrated in-ring performers on WWE Raw today.

McDonagh stepped in the ring with Chad Gable a few months ago and could get himself a rematch now that he is Intercontinental Champion.

Gable clashing with McDonagh could provide another showstealer during this title reign.

Meanwhile, if Rey Fenix wins the title, he could have a highly competitive contest against someone like McDonagh over the gold on WWE Raw.

Dominik Mysterio

WWE star Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio has been a consistent fixture in the WWE Intercontinental Championship scene over the past two years.

After losing the gold in March, Mysterio has been on the outside looking in on the title scene.

Following his recent loss of the AAA Mega Championship to El Grande Americano, “Dirty Dom” might want to reassert himself in title contention on WWE Raw.

Dominik Mysterio challenging the winner of Chad Gable vs. Rey Fenix would be fitting considering his interactions with both men over the past year.

Big Cass

In August, Big Cass made his return to WWE and has been trying to run roughshod over anyone in front of him.

Considering his size and stature, Cass should be viewed as a threat to become the next WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Looking to redeem himself from his past stint in the promotion, Cass should be after his first singles championship in WWE.

Cass facing the winner of Chad Gable vs. Rey Fenix would give either man a formidable obstacle to square off with following their showdown.

Bronson Reed

At WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, Bronson Reed made his return to the company.

After returning from injury, Reed has been focused on dealing with Oba Femi.

At WWE Money In The Bank 2026, Femi defeated Reed and may have put an end to their rivalry.

Now looking to reignite his momentum upon his return, it would make sense if Bronson Reed looked to bring more championship gold to The Vision by challenging the WWE Intercontinental Champion following Chad Gable vs. Rey Fenix.
