While Jon Moxley has continued to hold the AEW World Championship hostage in a briefcase for over 220 days, there will be another champ eventually.
Moxley’s reign will end at some point, but predicting what happens even after Moxley is finally beaten is where things start to become even more interesting.
Here are our predictions for the next seven AEW World Champions.
Darby Allin

Darby Allin has been absent from AEW TV since December 2024, written off in storyline after an attack by Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.
In actuality, Allin was taking time off from AEW to summit Mount Everest – a feat that he completed and is now traversing back from.
Since Hangman Adam Page won the Owen Hart Foundation tournament and is set to challenge Moxley at AEW All In Texas, it would be easy to assume Hangman would be next.
However, it kind of seems like Moxley could pull off one last heartbreak, retaining the title at AEW All In Texas, and delaying any change of title until a later date with Darby Allin picking up the win and being the one to finally dethrone him.

Swerve Strickland

While Swerve Strickland came close to taking over from Jon Moxley at AEW Dynasty, ultimately the champ was able to retain after interference by the Young Bucks.
After their Anarchy in the Arena showdown, Swerve is clearly not done with Moxley but perhaps their feud isn’t strictly over the AEW World Championship at this point.
Swerve Strickland could very well enter a singles program against Moxley without the AEW World Championship being on the line, rather having a match come back around featuring Allin, Strickland and Moxley.
That could lead to a nice way for the AEW World Title to change hands without turning either Allin or Strickland heel, with Strickland winning that three-way.

Hangman Adam Page

So far a landmark feud in the history of AEW has absolutely been Hangman Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland.
However, the pair are arguably not even the same versions of themselves today as they were when they were last engaged in all out war – with both having accepted some form of responsibility for their toxic hatred of one another.
So if Swerve Strickland was to capture the AEW World Championship, once and for all ending Moxley’s reign of terror over AEW and moving onto something else, seemingly there would be an opportunity to re-visit the vitriol between Swerve and Hangman.
In the end, Hangman would be able to finally beat Swerve and regain the AEW World Championship, but be promptly faced with someone else from his past.

Will Ospreay

Coming back around to the Owen Hart Foundation tournament final that saw Hangman Adam Page and Will Ospreay go to battle, there could definitely be an iconic rivalry between these two in the future.
By the time we’re this far down the booking road, it might make sense to see Hangman slowly starting to have the weight of the title wear him down to the point he has no choice but to rely on heelish antics.
Maybe some help from an unexpected ally like MJF, perhaps some cheating, whatever the progression is, by the time Page faces Ospreay for the title, the fan favorite Ospreay should be able to win clean without a revolt.
If it were MJF who was feeding into Hangman’s darker impulses throughout the feud, it would set up nicely a future program between the two.

MJF

On a continual quest to reclaim the AEW World Championship, MJF would seemingly stop at nothing to reach his goals in the future.
Currently humbling himself in order to get in the good graces of Bobby Lashley and join the Hurt Syndicate, seemingly that storyline would likely be wrapped up by the time MJF was feuding with Ospreay.
Arguably pitting these two massive stars against one each other would be a great showcase of both and their individual abilities, but also would create memorable moments in AEW history as dedicated in-ring storytellers.
In the end though, MJF would need to beat Will Ospreay to reclaim his beloved ‘Triple B’ world title belt in order to face his biggest challenge yet.

Bobby Lashley

Regardless of what happened between MJF and Bobby Lashley in the past, theirs could be a legendary feud for the AEW World Championship.
With a potential for MJF to have his own faction flanking him for support by the time he’s AEW Champion again, there could be a lot of interesting pieces at play in a program between MJF and Lashley.
While they would have perhaps met before at this point, the added stakes of the AEW World Championship would certainly up the ante.
In the end, Lashley would be able to get the best of MJF to capture his first AEW World Championship win.

Adam Copeland

Fun fact about Bobby Lashley – he has never faced Adam Copeland/Edge under any moniker in a singles match at time of writing.
In fact, they have only ever been in the ring together three times – the 2021 and 2023 Royal Rumbles, as well as in 2006 during a WWE vs ECW 20-man Battle Royal.
Potentially able to put on not only an interesting but also athletically charged bout, it is hard to know where either star could land on a spectrum of babyface to heel by the time this match rolls around.
However, with the potential for each to be the figure heads of very different stables in AEW in the coming years, an eventual showdown would be memorable.
