New AEW Championships To Be Announced

Recent reports have revealed that Tony Khan may have multiple new AEW championships waiting in the wings to be introduced.

With the promotion always looking to expand, there are plenty of intriguing options for new titles that could be brought into the fold.

Here are five potential new AEW championships that could be announced soon.

5. Women’s Tag Team Championship

Since the beginning of the company, AEW has had women’s tag teams in action but devoid of any AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship to chase.

The most likely new titles to be introduced could be AEW women’s tag titles with plenty of teams currently in action that could vie to become the inaugural winners.

Giving teams like Skye Blue & Julia Hart, Anna Jay & Tay Melo and Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford a proper direction for their feuds, the titles could also open doors for the formation of new teams.

Tony Khan has mentioned being supportive of women’s tag titles being introduced – when the timing is right.

4. AEW Independent Championship

Since so many AEW talents compete in independent wrestling matches across the country, if AEW had an “indie championship” that starts with an AEW star and then goes on from there, there could be some incredibly unique match-ups that pop up and make news throughout the year.

The indie title could periodically be held by more well known indie talent like Matt Cardona who actually carry it on TV for matches against AEW talent, but moreover provide opportunity to showcase local independent wrestling.

Given the coverage that indie events get, whether it be via official channeles or fan footage, the title wouldn’t have to always be on TV to remain intriguing.

It could also serve as an informal answer to the WWE ID Championship.

3. Real Glass Championship

Ok, admittedly – it would never be called this name however an AEW variation of the vintage Hardcore championship from WWE is a great idea.

The belt itself should absolutely look worn and ragged, if not spraypainted like the former ‘Real World Championship’ was – but still be held in high regard by those chasing it.

Tailormade for wild matches, there could be obvious competitors like Mark Briscoe – all the way to someone like MJF who could be reluctantly pulled into the chaotic conflict through a feud.

While there are plenty of wild affairs already in AEW from Anarchy in the Arena to Stadium Stampede and everything in between – having an official king of chaos would be delightful.

2. Women’s Hardcore Championship

Along the same lines – since AEW is where the best wrestle, it makes complete sense that men and women find an equal footing.

Given the past history of there being some iconic albeit brutal and bloody women’s matches in AEW, it would be only fair that the ladies were able to also have a hardcore title to chase.

Arguably more interesting than a men’s version of the title, perhaps the AEW women’s hardcore title would be better suited to be introduced first.

With plenty of contenders like Deonna Purrazzo, Thunder Rosa, Anna Jay, Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander and Tay Melo already having demonstrated successful and gritty performances in AEW – this title and division could make serious history.

3. Inter-Generational Tag Team Championship

In a report from Bodyslam.net, it was noted that AEW has already gotten so far into the concept of there being Inter-Generational Tag Team Champions that title belts have been made.

With the description of the titles seemingly suggesting that the point of the division would be for father and son teams – as a broader concept, the idea actually makes complete sense and could be pretty cool.

A fun way to incorporate special appearances by nostalgic acts from the past, the idea that sounds unusual now could end up being some of the most entertaining stories in wrestling.

With teams like Christian Cage & Nick Wayne, Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara, Billy Gunn & Anthony Bowens and Nigel McGuinness & Daniel Garcia already in competition, there would be plenty of other options too, such as pairing Chris Jericho with his latest protege, or any other of the veterans on the roster going that route.
