With one released star being reportedly involved in a match back in the company, there could be more WWE stars set to return soon.
After it was revealed that Shayna Baszler was a producer for a match on last night’s WWE NXT, it leaves the intriguing possibility for more released stars to return.
Here are six more released WWE stars that could find themselves returning to the company.
6. Dakota Kai
One of the stars that WWE fans expressed the most shock at their departure in May 2025 was Dakota Kai.
While she had previously been released in April 2022 after seven years with the company in NXT, she would return to do big things on the main roster after being re-signed and returning in July.
A popular member of Damage CTRL, Dakota Kai had just been in contention for the WWE Intercontinental Women’s Championship, getting to the final of the tournament to crown the inaugural winner.
With a lot left to contribute both inside and outside the ring, it would be iconic to see Kai come back to the company in any capacity.

5. Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin)
While he would successfully find new life in NXT including forming an enjoyable tag team with Bron Breakker – Corbin would fail to find storyline footing when he returned to the main roster.
The WWE veteran found himself in the position that his contract with the company had come to an end and it was not going to be renewed – sending him back into free agency.
Going on to already make an impact in independent wrestling and debuting his new moniker Bishop Dyer – there is seemingly a lot left to be accomplished.
Making the perfect surprise return in a Royal Rumble – hopefully Baron Corbin will make an appearance again one day.

4. Cameron Grimes
Popular during his time in NXT, Cameron Grimes was seemingly lost in the shuffle on the main roster.
However since his departure from the company, he has continued to wrestle in various independent promotions under his actual name, Trevor Lee.
While he remains a free agent, there is definitely still life left in his on-screen character from NXT or the ability to shift into another over the top gimmick.
With a history in TNA Wrestling as well, perhaps it will actually be through the crossover between NXT and TNA Wrestling that fans see the return of Cameron Grimes.

3. Mara Sade (Jakara Jackson)
Jakara Jackson not only had a dynamic character on her own – she was also a member of the popular NXT stable Meta-Four.
Despite her charisma and in-ring ability, Jackson found herself released in May 2025 but has since delivered on her promise to continue wrestling.
Already making a splash on the indies, she recently competed against TNA Wrestling Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich in a losing effort at the JCW Championship.
Since it seems as though Lash Legend could certainly find herself on the main roster in the near future – if there were to be future plans to feature the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship it would be wise to re-recruit Jakara Jackson.

2. Braun Strowman
Some fans expressed surprise when Braun Strowman was released again by WWE in May 2025.
The former WWE Universal Champion was released in 2021 and later make his return in 2022.
While he may have not had a super clear direction forward on the main roster – it doesn’t mean that Strowman couldn’t re-invent a brand new character.
Seemingly enjoyed by live crowds, perhaps we will see Strowman return one day in a battle royal or the Royal Rumble.

1. Matt Cardona
One WWE return that fans have continued to fantasy book over the years is that of the former Zack Ryder, Matt Cardona.
With a recent big reference to Cardona by John Cena on SmackDown being followed up by an attack at TNA Wrestling by the NXT faction Darkstate – it seems as though we may see the return of Matt Cardona to WWE.
Being one of the released stars from 2020 who would go on to make a bigger name for himself outside WWE, the tenured veteran would be an incredible special appearance in WWE.
But it would be even better to see him re-sign full-time and have a main roster run alongside real-life wife Chelsea Green with the duo having been known for their entertaining antics as a pair in the indies.
