With John Cena set for only a limited number of WWE appearances before he is set to retire from in-ring competition, there have been matches canceled.
From bouts that Cena noted he wanted to have but that didn’t quite work out to others out of action
Here are eight John Cena WWE retirement tour matches that are canceled.
8. AJ Styles
After the pair had a memorable feud in the past, fans were hopeful they could see AJ Styles go up against John Cena again.
However it doesn’t seem likely that the match will end up coming to fruition.
Noting on the post-show after Clash in Paris 2025 that has had wanted to do another one-on-one bout against AJ Styles but that it hadn’t lined up, Cena did a Styles Clash on Logan Paul in homage to the fellow veteran.
With limited dates remaining on Cena’s schedule with WWE and potentially a few more opponents left to go – it does seem unfortunate that there wasn’t a singles match for AJ Styles and John Cena on the latter’s farewell tour.

7. Roman Reigns
This one seems fairly unlikely given recent reports that Roman Reigns has been written off of WWE TV for the foreseeable future.
Reigns was stretchered from ringside after an attack from Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. It was later revealed that he was out of action “indefinitely”.
With filming underway on the live action film Street Fighter underway, Reigns is set to play the villainous martial artist Akuma in the film. Reportedly his absence from WWE is aligned with his time on set for the film, thought to last several weeks to a few months.
Notably Cody Rhodes has been cast to play Guile in the movie, already having been snapped in photos with other cast members.

6. Jacob Fatu
One exciting match that would have been fun for fans is Jacob Fatu taking on John Cena.
Fatu was positioned upon his debut as a monster heel but due to organic fan support has become more of a babyface figure.
While the duo could always engage in some combat based on mutual respect, the showdown may have been more meaningful earlier in the farewell tour before Cena dabbled in the dark side.
Should the two end up tangling in the ring before Cena departs, it would certainly be a memorable WWE moment and able to harken back to Cena’s early career feud with Umaga.

5. Seth Rollins
There were some curious interactions between Seth Rollins and John Cena so far in 2025 that almost teased a potential secret alliance.
Although the technically have exchanged blows during the farewell tour, particularly during the Elimination Chamber match – it ended up being Rollins that helped Cena win the match in the end.
With Seth Rollins currently holding the WWE World Championship, there is always a possibility that Cena looks to take him down on his way out of the company but it doesn’t seem likely.
Having not really interfaced at all with The Vision storyline and the group seemingly now pointing their ire back towards CM Punk and The Usos – John Cena could just stay entirely out of WWE Raw business in his final months.

4. Joe Hendry
While both Joe Hendry and John Cena were technically in the Royal Rumble 2025 together – the pair did not cross paths.
With Roman Reigns eliminating Joe Hendry before the arrival of John Cena in the match, they have still yet to share the ring.
With Hendry having been open about how John Cena contributed to his career as well as his major goal to face Cena in a match – it might take a bit of luck to help this one come to fruition.
However, if there is anyone who has proven themselves consistently to be the most dedicated worker to land in the right place at the right times – it is Joe Hendry!

3. Drew McIntyre
Now that John Cena is back to being a babyface, it makes it all the more sad that he doesn’t seemed poised for a one-on-one with Drew McIntyre ahead of retirement.
While there would end up being a tag team effort between Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul to take on John Cena and Cody Rhodes – the duo would split in the opposite direction for feuds moving forward.
With McIntyre chasing Rhodes for the WWE Championship, it would end up being Logan Paul who took on John Cena at Clash in Paris 2025 in a losing effort.
Certainly with plenty of unresolved story that could be told, McIntyre could still be considered as an option for one of Cena’s final opponents.

2. The Rock
The Rock has played an intriguing role in the career of John Cena – all the way through this 2025 retirement tour.
After making an appearance at Elimination Chamber along with Travis Scott that proved pivotal in the farewell tour of John Cena – marking his heel turn – The Rock ended up not having further involvement.
With the John Cena heel turn being abandoned swiftly ahead of SummerSlam – there may never be any closure in the storyline between Cena and The Final Boss.
While perhaps the pair could wrap up their storyline in a verbal exchange, it seems highly unlikely fans will ever see a bout between The Rock and John Cena again.

1. Bron Breakker
Seemingly poised for a big future program with Roman Reigns – it doesn’t seem as though Bron Breakker will tangle with John Cena.
It continues to be rumored that it will be GUNTHER who faces John Cena in his last bout but there are other possibilities.
Since Bron Breakker has continued his rise in WWE, he could also be a suitable final opponent for Cena should the veteran star look to give a nod to another generation.
Continuing his dastardly ways as a part of Seth Rollins’ Vision faction, perhaps there could be a way for the story to come together in the end.
