Some of the most recognizable and beloved names in WWE history have come from winners of the WWE Tag Team Championship.
From icons from the Attitude Era that could be poised to return for their own farewell tours to recently released WWE stars that still have things to accomplish in the company – there could be some iconic returns in the coming months.
Here are six former WWE Tag Team Champions to re-sign with the company.
6. Chris Jericho

One legendary former tag team champ that could be returning to WWE sooner rather than later is Chris Jericho.
While rumors continue to swirl that the veteran star could be returning to WWE after his current contract expires with AEW – Jericho has made a recent comment.
Noting that he is still currently under contract with AEW, he added that he “wouldn’t be opposed” to a return to WWE in the future.
A shoo-in as a future WWE Hall of Fame induction, it could be that Chris Jericho makes a return as soon as January 2026.

5. Shayna Baszler

Having been a WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion once alongside Ronda Rousey and twice with Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler could be another potential former tag team title holder to return to the company.
While Baszler was just released from WWE back in May 2025, she continued to contribute backstage while awaiting the end of her non-compete clause.
Being listed as a producer for a match in NXT, the former NXT Women’s Champion could definitely return to the company either in front of the camera or backstage.
Certainly still with a lot to contribute from a storytelling capacity, hopefully Baszler finds her way back on to WWE TV in the future.

4. Paul Wight

Another professional wrestling legend that remains under contract with AEW despite not making many recent appearances is Paul Wight.
However that doesn’t mean that the former Big Show from WWE wouldn’t potentially return to the company where he won tag team gold with numerous partners including Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, Kane, Ken Shamrock and The Miz.
Another notable name that is seemingly assured a future induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, Wight still has a ton to contribute both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
Fun on commentary as well as in the ring, it would be great to see the Big Show return to WWE before the legendary star officially hangs up his boots on competition for good.

3. Braun Strowman

WWE fans aren’t soon to forget the time that Braun Strowman won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship twice with Seth Rollins and another time with a child named Nicholas.
While Strowman may have been released for the second time from WWE back in May 2025, he isn’t quite done with his connection to the company.
The USA Network has announced that the series he filmed about travel and food during his time on the road with WWE would still air in Fall 2025.
While Strowman does seem to be exploring opportunities outside of wrestling, the ‘Big S.O.B.’ could still find a future in WWE down the road.

2. Matt & Jeff Hardy

After a legendary career that has spanned decades and promotions, the Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff Hardy) are current tag team champions.
Continuing to carry the TNA Wrestling Tag Team titles, the duo have made a few appearances on WWE TV including competing on NXT in March while under contract with the partnering promotion.
Most recently making an appearance in the crowd during SummerSlam 2025, it seems that the return of the Hardy Boyz could be coming soon with their TNA contracts set to expire later this year.
Having previously commented about their desire to return to WWE together before they retire – perhaps the Hardy Boyz will be the next beloved WWE act to have an official farewell tour.

1. Billy Gunn

Billy Gunn is another name frequently linked with a return to WWE, especially as his presence on AEW TV continues to diminish.
While he hasn’t competed in AEW since Double or Nothing 2024, it doesn’t mean that Gunn hasn’t wrestled elsewhere.
Still competing on the indies – including several appearances with QT Marshall’s 1 Fall Wrestling – Gunn may still have some compelling in-ring moments left in his career.
Potentially able to make a splash as another beloved nostalgic return – Billy Gunn remains a favorite that WWE fans would surely like to see again before he elects to retire.
