While there is continual movement within professional wrestling, there are always former WWE stars that fans hope to see back one day.
From Hall of Famers to those who are still active in other companies – there are a lot of former WWE stars that would be great to see back “home”.
Here are eight former WWE stars who could re-sign with the company.
8. The Bella Twins

After Nikki Bella made a big in-ring return at Royal Rumble 2025, there have continued to be rumblings that WWE could be headed for a Bella Twins reunion.
With rumors of an upcoming Evolution 2 PLE, perhaps Nikki Bella could see a return to main event action since the inaugural iteration of the event was headlined by herself taking on Ronda Rousey.
Or perhaps they could finally capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – with it being long rumored that they were factored in the initial creative plans for the titles.
Their involvement which included making a surprise return at the SmackDown after WrestleMania 35 which was set to lead to a long feud and according to Brie – an eventual long title reign for the Bellas. With the women’s tag team division largely disappearing in WWE, the move would be a solid way to write the titles off of TV for good, or see Nikki and Brie inject some new life into the division.

7. Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks)

Mercedes Mone seems as though she just got to AEW but there were some interesting details attached to the overall reporting on her initial contract.
While she debuted in AEW in March 2024 – according to reports at the time she had already been on the AEW payroll for several months. Her contract is reportedly set for up to five years but with an opt-out ahead of year three which would presumably occur around January 2026.
Perhaps already having achieved all she would want to achieve in AEW by that point – potentially Mone would want to return to WWE to settle some unfinished business.
There are many factors that would have to align in order to make this move come to pass, but time will tell.

6. Matt Cardona (Zack Ryder)

The former Zack Ryder was released from WWE back in April 2020 after a 15-year run with the company.
However he utilized the setback to become an example for how to successfully turn being released from WWE into independent success – finding acclaim in GCW and TNA Wrestling amongst others.
While his real-life wife Chelsea Green found her way back to the company, the Indy God remains active seemingly everywhere except WWE – even having appeared in AEW.
Cardona has commented in the past that he does still hope to return to WWE one day – a sentiment plenty of fans share as well.

5. Raj Dhesi (Jinder Mahal)

The former Jinder Mahal didn’t take his release from WWE in April 2024 to mean the end of his career.
Rather, Dhesi would go on to totally re-introduce himself on the independent scene and make appearances for the likes MLW, GCW and even AAA.
Continuing to have a veteran presence as well as the ability to do more complex character work than he was previously given – Dhesi would be a great pick-up for WWE if he were to return.
There are a number of potential pals to re-emerge alongside Dhesi, but the Bollywood Boys (formerly known as Sunil Singh and Samir Singh during their time in WWE) would make a legendary group who have a ton of built-in character motivation given their last runs in the company so perhaps we could see the unit return.

4. Paige

After departing from her recent stint in AEW – Paige is now a free agent.
While she is currently booked and busy, hosting her brand new podcast (Rulebreakers with Saraya) and promoting her recently released memoir – that doesn’t mean we won’t ever see her return to WWE.
With rumors of both an Evolution 2 event and developments in the women’s division like the women’s Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber – hopefully Paige returns at some point for at least a fun nostalgic moment.
The former Divas Champion is still a fan favorite and has a great deal to offer to WWE whether she’s competing inside a ring or not.

3. Trevor Lee (Cameron Grimes)

Trevor Lee has continued his pro wrestling journey after being released in April 2024.
Formerly known as Cameron Grimes when he was in WWE, Lee was a star on NXT that seemed to fizzle on the main roster.
However in the past year, Lee has continued to compete in independent wrestling and remains active in promotions across the country.
Being in his early 30s Lee has plenty left to offer should WWE look to pick him up again in the future.

2. The Hardy Boyz

After a spell in AEW and then TNA Wrestling – it would still be great to see Matt and Jeff Hardy back in WWE at least one more time.
While the legendary pair of Matt and Jeff Hardy have recently appeared on NXT – they will likely be re-signed with WWE in the near future.
The Hardy Boyz’s one year contracts with TNA Wrestling were reportedly signed in November 2024 with the length of one year – however we could always see the team back again before Fall.
Even if its just for Hall of Fame inductions in 2026, The Hardys seem like a lock to be back in WWE and rightfully celebrated back where they began their illustrious careers.

1. Goldberg

With Goldberg confirmed to be headed back to WWE in-ring action at some point in the near future, fans immediately recalled his last appearance on WWE TV – being lambasted by GUNTHER. Although it seemed like he could make a return at WWE Backlash to confront The Ring General this did not end up happening.
However, with Jey Uso set to defend his World Heavyweight Title against Logan Paul on Saturday Night’s Main Event and then a pre-announced match at the Raw after Money in the Bank on June 9th against GUNTHER – perhaps Goldberg is already lurking to attack the Austrian.
Goldberg’s previous appearances in WWE were notable for having one appearance annually in Saudi Arabia during 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
With WWE Night of Champions set for June 28, 2025, from the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, perhaps that will be the stage of Goldberg’s big WWE return. While he may be signing on for one final match, Goldberg’s return could see him make further appearances via a legends deal once he has hung up his boots for good.
