On the September 16 WWE NXT Homecoming show, several former champions from the brand’s past showed up on the program.
Reminding fans of the legends who have stepped foot in a NXT ring, there are several other former titleholders who are currently outside of the company that could make their way back.
Looking at the current free agents or stars in other companies, the variety of former NXT champions could truly shake things up considerably in WWE right now.
Here are eight former NXT champions to potentially re-sign with WWE.
8. Paige

Ever since she left All Elite Wrestling in March, fans have been speculating about where Saraya could be heading next.
After admitting she is open to making a return, it felt like Saraya was set to become Paige once again in WWE sooner rather than later.
However, the former AEW Women’s World Champion and NXT Women’s Champion remains a free agent and does not look close to making her return to the company as of late.
If fans want to see her back in the ring again, it seems inevitable that Paige will return to WWE and could make a huge impact on the women’s division upon her in-ring comeback.

7. Tyler Breeze

On the September 16 Homecoming edition of WWE NXT, Tyler Breeze made his in-ring return to challenge Ethan Page for the NXT North American Championship.
After coming up short against Page for the gold, Breeze could continue his pursuit of the singles gold that has eluded throughout his runs on NXT.
Using his years of experience as an in-ring competitor and trainer, the former NXT Tag Team Champion could potentially re-sign in a player-coach role.
Following in the footsteps of his real life friend and business partner Shawn Spears, Breeze returning to NXT could give them another veteran who will help the progression of the younger talent on the roster.

6. Keith Lee

Fans have not seen Keith Lee step into the squared circle in almost two years when he was sidelined with back injuries in December 2023.
Lee was viewed as someone who had everything it takes to be the top star of the entire promotion with his impressive size, stunning strength and unbelievable agility.
Not being able to see this version of “The Limitless One” for so long, it might prevent AEW from using him in the right way or at all despite his recent proclamation of being cleared to compete.
Keith Lee leaving AEW and heading back to WWE could see him finally positioned as a main event level talent considering Triple H is now the head of creative instead of Vince McMahon.

5. Mandy Rose

Back in 2021, WWE decided to rebuild and reshape the NXT brand as a developmental territory with young talent from the Performance Center, but also some veteran talent.
Around that time, Mandy Rose moved to the NXT brand and received the biggest push of her career when she captured the NXT Championship.
Holding the gold for over a year, Rose became the face of the NXT women’s division before losing the title and subsequently being released from the company after some controversy concerning her social media paid content.
Rose re-signing could see her once again join NXT where she could be the former champion returning to take down this current generation of the women’s division.

4. Shayna Baszler

On the WWE NXT Homecoming show, Shayna Baszler made her return to the company for the first time since her release in May.
Coming back after four months away, “The Queen of Spades” has clearly displayed her willingness to work with WWE again.
Whether it be as an in-ring performer or working in a backstage role, the former NXT Women’s Champion could contribute to the promotion in a significant way with a second run.
Baszler getting another shot in WWE would be interesting to watch unfold to see if Triple H or Shawn Michaels could reignite the former Women’s Tag Team Champion back to her prior prominence on NXT.

3. Karrion Kross

Karrion Kross debuted in WWE on the NXT brand in 2020 where he went on a dominant run that saw him win the NXT Championship twice.
Following a more consistent second run with the company, Kross announced that he was officially a free agent after WWE did not renew his contract in August.
Connecting with the audience on a massive level and regularly garnering some of the loudest crowd reactions, Kross got himself over and was subsequently punished for it in a way.
Kross re-signing with WWE could see him return to his former stomping grounds of NXT where he could dominate one more time before going on to bigger and better things.

2. Gallus (Wolfgang, Joe & Mark Coffey)

Back in May, WWE announced its latest slate of talent cuts, which included over 15 wrestlers being released from their contracts.
Among the names included in this round of WWE releases was the trio known as Gallus.
Former NXT Tag Team Champions Wolfgang, Joe and Mark Coffey made for one of the more established factions on WWE NXT and Evolve, which made their release quite surprising.
Gallus making their return could see them with renewed focus and fire behind what they are doing on WWE TV moving forward.

1. AOP (Akam & Rezar)

When Akam and Rezar first showed up on WWE NXT, Authors of Pain quickly solidified themselves as one of the more feared and intimidating tandems in the company.
Winning the NXT Tag Team Championships, AOP clearly impressed fans and WWE management enough to get called up to the main roster.
In February, Authors of Pain were released from the company for a second time after spending one year in this WWE run.
AOP could be returning to get featured more often and consistently than how they were during their previous two stints with WWE.
