With Blake Monroe (formerly known as Mariah May in AEW) making a huge debut in WWE on NXT, there are others who could easily follow suit.

From day one AEW stars that could be interested in looking elsewhere to former WWE stars who could consider returning to the company now – there are quite a few intriguing options on this list.

Here are eight former AEW Champions that could be poised to sign with WWE.

8. Chris Jericho

AEW star Chris Jericho

Having been AEW from the beginning of the company, Chris Jericho has been staple of the brand – however as of late has been rejected by some of the AEW fanbase.

While his latest character iteration wrote himself off TV – after having a rage incident by which he informed Big Bill and Bryan Keith that he wasn’t mad but rather disappointed – and left.

The timing is intriguing however with Jericho’s AEW contract reportedly set to be up in December 2025 – his absence ahead of AEW’s American stadium show All In Texas seems a bit conspicuous.

While it remains to be seen what Chris Jericho could be planning for the future, certainly the legend would have be shoe-in to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame if he were to re-sign with WWE.

7. Scorpio Sky

The two time AEW TNT Champion as well as AEW Tag Team Champion, Scorpio Sky hasn’t had a match in AEW or ROH since 2023.

That doesn’t mean however that he isn’t actively wrestling, having matches in GCW, WCPW among others in the recent past.

While Tony Khan was recently asked about Scorpio Sky’s AEW status at the post-Double or Nothing 2025 to which he noted that while he had an idea for Sky, they elected to not proceed but that he was still under contract and “when the time was right,” he may return.

According to Fightful, Scorpio Sky is still set to be under contract with AEW until October 2026 so unless he is granted a release, it may still be a bit until fans see Sky in the ring again on TV – and possibly in WWE.

6. Britt Baker

Another member of the AEW roster that may also be sitting on the bench is Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. although her status has not been publicly addressed by Tony Khan.

Last seen in AEW in-ring action back in November 2023, Baker largely disappeared after having previously featuring heavily in an on-screen role both on AEW and in media appearances on behalf of the company.

Despite rumors regarding her interactions with fellow AEW roster members backstage, Baker seems to keep a friendly relationship with several WWE stars on social media – so perhaps a move could be in her future.

Given that her current in-ring name is her literal name and educational accreditation, she would likely have a natural character shift with a new name but could even complete re-invent herself with a new gimmick.

5. Saraya

WWE star Paige (AEW star Saraya)

Even before it was confirmed that Saraya had departed AEW, WWE fans were already calling for her to resume her role as Paige.

While the star has commented that she is open to returning to WWE and with Evolution 2 on the horizon – it would be amazing to see her return for the special event.

Potentially signing on for more long term appearances, Paige has held on-screen roles as a host and general manager, providing even more things for her to possibly do in storyline.

With NXT gaining popularity amongst fans as being the most unpredictable brand, it would make complete sense to see Paige pop-up at any time to her former stomping grounds.

4. HOOK

AEW star HOOK

HOOK was written off television after an off-screen attack was attributed to Jon Moxley and the Deathriders although no footage was shown.

With reports that WWE were interested in HOOK upon his free agency, there hasn’t been an update regarding HOOK’s AEW contract status since he disappeared from TV on April 9th.

It was reported that AEW would intend on doing everything to keep the rising star and it was later revealed that he had engaged Barry Bloom to assist in his contract negotiations.

With Bloom representing numerous other AEW roster members including the likes of the Kenny Omega, Young Bucks and Will Ospreay – it could be that HOOK will make a surprise return to AEW. However, in today’s professional wrestling landscape – anything can happen!

3. Samoa Joe

While his current contract length with AEW is not known, Samoa Joe did sign with the company in April 2022.

Going on to become even more famous outside of professional wrestling with his forays into acting as well as video games, Samoa Joe has already accomplished a great deal in his in-ring career.

Perhaps now looking to maximize his mainstream exposure and think ahead about the ability to transfer to even more out of ring opportunities, Samoa Joe could consider a return to WWE.

Samoa Joe would make an ideal addition to WWE commentary or hosting panels for special events and to generally serve as a public ambassador after he decides to retire from wrestling.

2. The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn)

After being active in competition last Summer, Austin and Colten Gunn have also largely disappeared from AEW TV. Last appearing in February in a one-off match against the Hurt Syndicate, the pair had before that not been seen since September 2024.

With Billy Gunn having significant history in WWE and Triple H, there is definitely a foundation there for the pair to explore their potential options in WWE

Colten & Austin Gunn’s expected contract expiration is not publicly known, although they did reportedly sign ‘multi-year deals’ in February 2023.

With the pair still having a lot left to accomplish in their careers with natural athletic ability and charisma – it would make total sense to see The Gunns sign with WWE.

1. Max Caster

AEW's Max Caster

It was reported back in November 2020 that both Anthony Bowens and Max Caster signed 5 year deals at that time – meaning that it could be that both are close to potential free agency.

While Bowens and Caster have split on screen, Bowens has gone on to be presented as a more viable future threat than Caster who has seen a series of embarrassing losses as a part of his character’s storyline.

While Caster is somewhat active in competition, he has not won any matches in 2025 nor have any of his 11 straight losses have lasted longer than 2 minutes.

With some fans wondering if perhaps Caster won’t seek future endeavors elsewhere when he is eligible, he could be a great fit to make the leap to WWE.
