AEW CEO Tony Khan has officially announced a new championship is set for the promotion and its first winner will be crowned at Full Gear 2025.
Appearing alongside Tony Schiavone, Tony Khan confirmed the upcoming introduction of the AEW National Championship, citing the history of the National Championship on TBS, which merged with the United States Championship back in 1986.
Set to be determined via a Casino Gauntlet match at AEW Full Gear 2025, here are six potential inaugural winners of the AEW National Championship.
6. MJF

Although he has been off of AEW TV since his last appearance at September’s AEW All Out in a Tables ‘n’ Tacks match against Mark Briscoe, a return from MJF may be on the horizon.
While the former AEW World Champion was away from AEW action while he filming for a new movie – Violent Night 2 – his work on the film is reportedly wrapping in the near future.
Possibly back for an appearance at Full Gear 2025, MJF could easily enter the Casino Gauntlet match to determine the inaugural winner of the title.
With the AEW World Championship war occupied at the event by Hangman Adam Page taking on Samoa Joe, it could be that MJF chooses to snag the AEW National Championship on his path to reclaiming his beloved former title.

5. Adam Copeland

A former TNT Champion, Adam Copeland could possibly be making a return to action at AEW Full Gear 2025.
He’s been away since his AEW All Out appearance that saw him reunite with Christian Cage to topple FTR, with FTR launching a post-match attack on his wife Beth Copeland that made him rethink his choices.
Copeland took time off of AEW to film for the Disney+ series Percy Jackson & The Olympians where he plays Ares, the god of war.
Able to easily return at the event in the Casino Gauntlet match and win the entire bout, it could be fun to see Copeland pull off a classic performance by fending off an endless stream of opponents before finally capturing victory.

Potentially able to join the field in the match and capture victory, the return of Switchblade Jay White will definitely be exciting for fans whenever it takes place.
While it has not been confirmed when Jay White is expected back in action, it could be that to expect a return at AEW Full Gear 2025 may be premature.
However, with the recent addition of Ace Austin who has been appearing with Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn recently on Collision, perhaps the boys are planning on getting back together soon.

In what could be a surprising move, Chris Jericho could make a return to AEW to enter the Casino Gauntlet match and become a champion yet again.
While Jericho effectively wrote himself off of TV after dropping the ROH World Championship to Bandido at AEW Dynasty in April, he has yet to return to TV which has set rumors ablaze in the interim.
The prevailing notion that Jericho has been absent from AEW for so long because he is poised to return to WWE.
However, there remains a chance that his absence could instead be used to reinvigorate Jericho in AEW.

Failing to capture any singles titles thus far during his time in AEW, perhaps it is time for Bobby Lashley to claim gold.
Potentially able to join the Casino Gauntlet match and end it quickly and in dominant fashion, Bobby Lashley could make a massive statement about his intentions in AEW with a decisive victory.
Having gained acclaim as a part of the Hurt Syndicate trio in AEW so far, Lashley could reclaim a title through becoming the inaugural AEW National Champion and still stay united with the group.
