Final AEW Opponent For Jon Moxley

After holding AEW World Title captive for over 220 days, Jon Moxley may still reign as champ, but all good things must come to an end.

While there is certainly no indication that Jon Moxley is set to stop performing anytime soon, he has amassed quite the list of potential final rivals in AEW if he were looking to step away.

Here are eight potential final AEW opponents for Jon Moxley.

8. Chris Jericho

One way to bring it back around to where Jon Moxley began in AEW would be to face off against Chris Jericho. While the pair can boast similar achievements, they have clearly gone about the direction of their characters in AEW in wildly different ways.

With Moxley establishing himself as a violent and gritty performer, seemingly bringing rebellious independent scene moments to the mainstream, Jericho has been a model of the opposite.

Bringing his own ‘sports entertainment’ skills with a tongue-in-cheek set of recent performances in AEW, Jericho has also been a foundational member of the AEW roster alongside Moxley.

It could be intriguing to see a dual retirement storyline between these two veterans, each looking to cement their own legacies.

7. Bryan Danielson

Just because Bryan Danielson has retired from full-time in-ring competition doesn’t mean he said he would never wrestle again.

If there was to be a planned Jon Moxley retirement run, it would be pretty great to see the opponent actually be a returning Bryan Danielson.

Putting a bookend to Danielson’s own last match which currently was at AEW WrestleDream 2024, the pair would likely make magic again.

With the face-off able to likely build up two younger stars in the process through their alliances, both legends could tell a fascinating story of two pillars essentially toppling simultaneously.

6. Darby Allin

While Darby Allin was written off AEW TV by a vicious attack at the hands of Jon Moxley and the Death Riders – putting a chair around his neck before pushing him down a long flight of stairs – in real life he was doing something even more extreme.

Allin was summiting Mount Everest, a feat that has been completed, as he is now seemingly returning to sea level and AEW in the near future.

Darby was seemingly poised to return and enter a massive program with Jon Moxley to avenge the injury against him, but also to the fabric of AEW in Allin’s absence, but that would likely not be the last meeting between the two.

Potentially wrapping back around in the future, Darby Allin could end up being Jon Moxley’s final opponent in the future.

5. Will Ospreay

With Jon Moxley positioned as a top heel in AEW, perhaps the counter is Will Ospreay.

A fan favorite for not only his in-ring ability but also his charming and candid personality, Ospreay has found a way to bring positivity to AEW without coming across as corny.

Pitting these two forces against one another could be an amazing parting story for Jon Moxley to tell, with perhaps some layers of humanity left to be revealed from him.

Able to bring out unique sides of another another, having a long program between Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley in AEW could be the perfect send-off for Mox.

4. Kenny Omega

Perhaps ending where it all began, Jon Moxley could elect to face Kenny Omega at the end of his AEW run.

After making his debut at AEW Double or Nothing 2019 by attacking Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho after the main event, it could be a full circle moment for Mox to face off against Omega.

While both have gone on to have an interesting last six years in AEW – including the lackluster finish to their Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch at AEW Revolution 2021 – both have remained top stars in the company.

If Moxley were set to depart AEW for whatever reason, Kenny Omega would be a poetic last opponent. Each very willing to put on a spectacular show, the bout could be both emotionally evocative and brutally bloody, seemingly the perfect goodbye for Jon Moxley.

3. Swerve Strickland

After Jon Moxley was able to retain the AEW World Championship against Swerve Strickland at Dynasty 2025 with some help from the Young Bucks, it seemed clear their war was not yet over.

While Moxley continues to face challengers from all angles, Swerve is unrelenting in his chase of Jon Moxley and would make a great future opponent to circle back to.

The history between the pair is notable but not lengthy at the minute, providing for plenty of future opportunity for memorable matches.

However, in the end if, Jon Moxley was looking to depart AEW, a massive parting gift to the promotion would be to cement Swerve Strickland as the future standard-bearer for the company.

2. Powerhouse Hobbs

After having suffered an injury during an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match in April 2024 against Jon Moxley in AEW, Powerhouse Hobbs was out of action for over six months.

While Hobbs would return, he would next get his hands on Jon Moxley in January 2025 where he challenged the now AEW World Champion Moxley for the title, losing by referee’s decision.

After having again showed off their chemistry, particularly during the Anarchy in the Arena match at AEW Double or Nothing 2025, it could be Powerhouse Hobbs who ends up being the final opponent for Moxley.

With the ability to bring out both familiar and unexpected sides of Moxley’s offense, the duo have already had compelling matches but one with even more emotional gravitas could be historic.

1. Wheeler Yuta

When the AEW Death Riders storyline first began, reports noted that the storyline was partially inspired by an obscure 1992 film, Romper Stomper.

In the film, Russell Crowe stars as Hando, the leader of a reckless band of Neo-Nazis who are presented as more disenfranchised and chaotic than purely evil – despite their clearly psychopathic ways. In the film, there is much more of a dynamic at play between Hando and his more reserved, quiet partner in violence, Davey.

While there will likely be a different wedge to eventually come between Yuta and Moxley – unlike in the film where the conflict is over protecting the female member of the group – the overarching theme could still be revisited.

With the initial storyline seemingly pointing towards Wheeler Yuta taking the brunt of Moxley’s rage and most outrageous commands, including to strangle his mentor Bryan Danielson, perhaps there is still a redemption arc on the way for Wheeler Yuta.
