With AJ Lee making a big return on WWE SmackDown it’s time to look ahead to what WWE could have in store for her at WrestleMania 42.

Here are eight potential opponents at WWE WrestleMania 42 for AJ Lee.

8. Becky Lynch

While they just faced off for the first time on WWE SmackDown, by the time we come back around the WrestleMania 42 – Becky Lynch could be the best rival for AJ Lee.

Before any singles match however the pair are expected to tangle at Wrestlepalooza in a mixed tag team match along with their husbands.

Potentially able to circle back to their feud as WrestleMania 42 season approaches, much like CM Punk and Seth Rollins’ own feud may do, the pair could end up having an intense and volatile Road to WrestleMania that hasn’t truly been seen from the women’s division yet.

Able to bring dynamic storytelling and stellar in-ring abilities, the duo could make some serious WrestleMania magic.

7. Bayley

Before the return of AJ Lee, CM Punk was left alone to deal with Becky Lynch and happened to note that he wasn’t entirely without allies.

Suggesting that he could easily call on the assistance of Bayley – perhaps that was a clue of a future allegiance, or rivalry with AJ Lee.

With Bayley seemingly on a path to return to WWE Raw with some sort of character shift, she could find herself tangling with AJ Lee down the road as a heel.

While it remains a mystery what is going on with Bayley, she’s likely returning with something intriguing planned.

Another name CM Punk said he could call upon for help against Becky Lynch was Rhea Ripley.

While she has already had impressive title reigns and memorable moments in WWE – a huge addition to her resume would be a battle against AJ Lee at WrestleMania.

With Ripley herself seemingly growing more frustrated by her setbacks as of late – she could end up leaning into her more brutal and vicious side in the near future.

Pitting a heel Rhea Ripley against a returning babyface AJ Lee could bring serious attention to the rivalry, with best of two generations facing off at WrestleMania 42 to culminate the feud.

5. Roxanne Perez

Although she was initially presented as a babyface when she joined NXT, before joining the main roster Roxanne Perez had gone to the dark side.

Continuing to find success as a heel on WWE Raw, the up-and-coming star has managed to find herself in one of the most powerful stables in WWE, the Judgment Day.

Having been open about how she was inspired by AJ Lee, certainly the match would be a dream moment for Perez – and an iconic passing of the torch for Lee.

Still affiliated with Judgment Day, it could make sense to see a future that keeps Perez as a sneaky and convincing heel up until WrestleMania 42.

With rumors that Liv Morgan could return to WWE as a babyface, it isn’t clear the dynamics that would lead to this showdown but it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be iconic!

Potentially feuding over a championship, the bout wouldn’t necessarily have to be rooted in vitriol but rather quest for the title.

With AJ Lee certainly poised to make a big impact on her first WrestleMania since returning to WWE – it would make sense to be featured with a current high profile name on the roster.

Bringing together two generations of WWE wild women could be a very fun match regardless of the prize.

3. Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair may be holding the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship right now as a part of a largely babyface team with Alexa Bliss – but it doesn’t mean their partnership will last.

With seven months between now and WrestleMania 42 – it seems entirely likely that not only will Flair and Bliss fall out, but we could soon see the dastardly version of The Queen once again.

While she has done a lot of work to earn goodwill with the WWE audience during her recent tag title run, endearing fans to a more fun loving version of her personality – it would be on brand for her character to absolutely lock in for WrestleMania season.

Marking what many would consider a dream match, a major marquee moment would be to have Charlotte Flair taking on AJ Lee in the latter’s WrestleMania return.

While it may seem far into the future, the first ever Royal Rumble from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will be here before we know it in January 2026.

With the 2025 Royal Rumble featuring the surprise returns of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Bella, fans will expect more potential returns at next year’s event – witH Paige perhaps at the top of most fans’ wish lists for the women’s Rumble.

Now that AJ Lee has made her return to WWE, the cries for Paige to join her in WWE will be louder than ever.

While the pair have already made WrestleMania memories together – perhaps more moments are yet to come on the “Grandest Stage of Them All” against each other.

If you remember WrestleMania 31, you already know where this is going – let’s run it back!

An ideal WrestleMania 42 match for AJ Lee might be to join forces with Paige once again to take on both Nikki and Brie Bella, The Bella Twins.

In a match that could be for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, there could be a third team in the bout as well like Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss or Piper Niven & Alba Fyre – but it would be amazing either way.

Celebrating AJ Lee’s last WrestleMania match in her WrestleMania return – including the returns of other big stars from the Divas era could be a fun nod to the past.
