Jon Moxley remains the AEW World Champion but eventually someone will have to topple the Death Riders leader for the title.
While there is certainly nothing to suggest that Jon Moxley’s reign is scheduled to end anytime soon, fans continue to dream up new ways that it could happen.
Here are five ways the title reign of Jon Moxley as AEW World Champion could end, replacing him at the top of the AEW card.
5. Samoa Joe

The fastest possible route for Jon Moxley to be replaced as AEW World Champion would be via old foe Samoa Joe.
Coming up at AEW Beach Break on May 14, Jon Moxley will defend his AEW World Championship in a Steel Cage Match against Samoa Joe.
Samoa Joe could absolutely de-throne Jon Moxley at Beach Break to become the new AEW World Champion, but more likely, some sort of shenanigans could ensue to make the finish of this particular TV match end in a cliffhanger.
With a rematch that could occur at the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing on May 25 on pay-per-view – perhaps there would be a third man in the match as well…

4. Swerve Strickland

Fans seemed truly to have hope that Jon Moxley’s reign of terror may have finally ended at AEW Dynasty when he took on Swerve Strickland.
If there is any change in AEW World Championship ahead of this summer’s big AEW All In: Texas – it would make sense for it to be Swerve Strickland who ultimately takes down Jon Moxley.
That being said, if he won by way of a three-way that involved champion Jon Moxley losing by way of Strickland pinning Samoa Joe, it protects Moxley (and his crusade) in loss, but also moves the storyline forward.
The benefit of having Swerve Strickland be the one who ultimately topples Jon Moxley in between now and All In: Texas would be to set up a massive Texas style feud for the main event, considering Hangman Adam Page is in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament final.

3. Hangman Adam Page

Another moving part in the future of Jon Moxley as the AEW World Champion is potential Owen Hart Cup winner, Hangman Adam Page.
Should Page pick up the Owen Cup and Strickland take down Moxley, fans could find themselves back around to a new installment of the fiery feud between the former AEW World Champions.
Then again, the other finalist in the tournament – Will Ospreay – would also make a tremendous foe for Jon Moxley at the biggest stadium show in the United States that AEW has ever run.
Given his fan favorite status, seeing Ospreay topple Moxley would likely also be well-recieved, so Tony Khan has options!

2. Darby Allin

One major option to replace Jon Moxley as the AEW World Champion has been out of sight in AEW for quite some time.
Being written off TV way back in December 2024, in real life Darby Allin planned to attempt to summit Mount Everest beginning in April 2025.
He was written off after an assault by the Death Riders and finally Jon Moxley sent him down a flight of stairs outside of the famed Hammerstein Ballroom.
When Allin does make his triumphant return to AEW, he remains the perfect person to avenge Bryan Danielson and topple Jon Moxley.

1. Kenny Omega

Perhaps the answer to who will take the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley has been hidden in plain sight.
Since returning to AEW, Kenny Omega has not been involved in the World Championship landscape, rather winning the AEW International Championship.
However, given the recent working alliance between the Young Bucks and Moxley’s Death Riders providing a way for the stories to intersect – maybe it is Omega who will take down Moxley after all.
Let’s not forget who ended Moxley’s first ever AEW World Championship reign back in 2020 – Kenny Omega.
