6 Surprises At AEW Dynasty 2025

Known for having big surprise moments, AEW Dynasty 2025 this Sunday could be another chance for Tony Khan to wow fans.

Between potential championship bout shocks, returns and possibly even a debut, there could be a lot of surprises in store by the end of the pay-per-view.

Here are six surprises that could occur at AEW Dynasty 2025.

6. Josh Alexander Is The ‘Wild Card’ vs. Hangman Adam Page

Potential AEW signee Josh Alexander

With the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament underway in AEW, there is set to be at least one surprise with the men’s bracket including the ‘Wild Card’ participant.

Since the ‘Wild Card’ is set to face off against Hangman Adam Page in the first round, it actually seems as though AEW could finally see the debut of Josh Alexander.

While the Walking Weapon has been rumored to be AEW bound, it has yet to be made official.

Making a surprise debut at AEW Dynasty to join the Owen would be a poetic debut for the proud Canadian.

5. MJF Debuts His Own Faction

AEW star MJF

MJF has been vocal about the fact that his relationship with Adam Cole led him to believe he couldn’t trust anyone moving forward.

However, he has been actively attempting to get recruited to the Hurt Syndicate although has been rebuffed by Bobby Lashley.

Since MJF has been clear that his goal is to reclaim the AEW World Championship, he may need to look for backup outside the company.

With Alexander Hammerstone and Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin in WWE) both still reportedly available on the free agent market, MJF could quickly compile his own squad of heavy hands.

4. Adam Cole Wins His First Title In AEW

You may be forgiven for not noticing that despite being a major player in storylines over the past few years, Adam Cole has yet to claim any AEW championships.

While he was one half of the ROH Tag Team Champions along with MJF as ‘Better Than You Bay Bay’, Cole has yet to claim any AEW titles.

However, that could change if he is able to topple Daniel Garcia for the TNT Championship at AEW Dynasty on Sunday.

Adam Cole could easily go on to feud with any number of top AEW stars for the TNT title, including one who has been away so far in 2025…

3. Jack Perry Returns

While it seemed likely that the Scapegoat Jack Perry would make his return at last month’s AEW Revolution given the SoCal location, no such luck.

Perry has remained away from AEW, absent since losing the TNT Championship to Daniel Garcia at Full Gear 2024.

While he did compete last at the AEW/CMLL/NJPW crossover show Wrestle Dynasty in January, perhaps his return to AEW TV has been on hold until now.

Regardless of who wins the TNT Championship match at AEW Dynasty, Jack Perry could be a formidable opponent if he were to return and look to reclaim the title he lost.

2. Young Bucks Return

Matthew and Nicholas Jackson have not been in action in AEW since dropping the AEW World Tag Team Title in October, however, that doesn’t mean they’ve been on vacation.

Rather, the duo recently appeared for a series of dates with NJPW where they first won and then lost the IWGP Tag Team Championship.

On the other hand, the other founding EVP still with the company – Kenny Omega – has returned from previously being taken out of action by The Elite.

Perhaps the Bucks will be on hand for Omega’s defense of the AEW International Championship when he is set to take on both Ricochet and “Speedball” Mike Bailey at the event.

1. Jon Moxley Retains The AEW World Championship

While it seems there is a ton of momentum and fan support behind Swerve Strickland potentially winning his second AEW World Championship this Sunday, it may be considered a surprise if Jon Moxley actually retains.

With The Death Riders’ Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and PAC having an AEW World Trios Championship bout also on the card against Rated FTR (Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood and Cope), Moxley may be without any current backup.

But that doesn’t mean there won’t be some main event chicanery from Marina Shafir or an entirely new ally, in order to continue to draw this storyline out.

Since there are several overlapping feuds, perhaps the true final war for the AEW World Championship (and perhaps the ‘soul of AEW’), won’t come to fruition until this July’s stadium event AEW All In Texas.
