With WWE SummerSlam 2025 fast approaching, there will undoubtedbly be some fan favorite stars that find themselves left off the card.
From stars that remain out of action due to legitimate injury to others that have been written off TV but could potentially return at any time – there is a little bit of everything in this list!
Here are nine stars that seem likely to miss out on SummerSlam 2025.
Seth Rollins
During a match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Seth Rollins was checked by a doctor after a match with LA Knight was stopped.
While he would continue the match, the finish was very shortly thereafter with LA Knight coming out on top and subsequent reports that Rollins was dealing with a legitimate injury.
While he recently confirmed he suffered a knee injury, Rollins was non-specific about the expected duration out of action beyond “extended period of time”.
On WWE Raw on July 14th, Paul Heyman carried the Money in the Bank briefcase in Rollins’ absence and noted that he had up to one year to cash-in – therefore plenty of time left to use the contract.

Liv Morgan
Liv Morgan was seemingly set for a summer of big storylines – however she unfortunately picked up an injury that took her out of action.
While Morgan has already shared social media that she had undergone surgery, she is expected to continue to be out of action for the foreseeable future.
Since she has been replaced in her WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship duo with Raquel Rodriguez by Roxanne Perez – the potential wrath of Liv’s return continues to loom over the pair.
Although it is possible the star could make an on-screen appearance, she will certainly not be able to be back into in-ring action by the time the first-ever two night SummerSlam rolls around.

Bianca Belair
While she returned at WWE Evolution to be a special guest referee for the no holds barred match between Naomi and Jade Cargill – Bianca Belair could be missing out on the biggest party of the summer.
Currently there is not a clear path forward for Bianca Belair to have a match at SummerSlam.
With Naomi having captured the WWE Women’s World Championship on WWE Raw and Tiffany Stratton retaining the WWE Championship on SmackDown and set to face Jade Cargill at SummerSlam – it seems Belair is the one member of the Big Three left out.
Perhaps destined to be added to the World title match with IYO SKY, Rhea Ripley and Naomi 0r Tiffany vs. Jade to make that title bout a triple threat – never count out Bianca Belair.

Sami Zayn
Another WWE Raw star that has been written off of TV is Sami Zayn.
After a budding feud with Karrion Kross as well as Bron Breakker – the duo seemingly succeeded in their combination efforts to dismantle him – despite Breakker having not wanted any help.
While the reason for his real life absence has not been revealed – Paul Heyman noted on-screen that the star was out of action “indefinitely”.
There is certainly a path forward which could see Zayn return sooner rather than later however by all indications it seems he will sit out SummerSlam 2025.

Bayley
After being occupied since WrestleMania 41 with a three-way feud with Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch – it seems Bayley has finally officially been made odd woman out.
While she had hard hitting and competitive match against Valkyria on WWE Raw to determine who would ultimately face Lynch at SummerSlam for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship but was bested by the former champ.
Without any other recent feuds – it is unclear how Bayley might be able to find herself on the SummerSlam 2025.
Having proven herself as not only a fan favorite but a reliable veteran who can consistently deliver excellence – hopefully something substantive for Bayley is coming soon in WWE.

Rey Mysterio
Pulled from action due to a groin injury ahead of the AAA x WWE Worlds Collide crossover event, Rey Mysterio could also miss SummerSlam.
While it is possible that Mysterio will make it back in time for SummerSlam – with some reports noting his return could be as soon as August – we’ll have to wait and see.
Having previously been set to face El Grande Americano – perhaps returning to finally have that match could be in jeopardy as well given that Chad Gable is out of action due to injury.
Or perhaps Mysterio could still face the masked luchador who continues to soldier on in Gable’s absence but seemingly Ludwig Kaiser filling in.

Ludwig Kaiser
Upon the injury to Chad Gable, it seemed as though the fan favorite El Grande Americano may end up out of action as well.
However when El Grande Americano continued to appear – seemingly re-cast with Ludwig Kaiser now with the mask and singlet – perhaps he will still make the SummerSlam card.
But it does seem unlikely that Ludwig Kaiser would be tasked with doing double duty – but it would be amusing seeing the serious star attempting to keep up the ruse during the event.
Potentially facing other luchadores like Dragon Lee, El Hijo del Vikingo or the rumored to be signed AAA star Octagon Jr.

Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens has been out of action in WWE since April when he announced that he would be unable to compete at WrestleMania 41.
Owens would later reveal on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast that he was intending to have surgery making it unlikely that Owens would return at SummerSlam, even for an on-screen appearance.
Other WWE stars that are known to be rehabbing from injury and could be unlikely to appear include Otis, Apollo Crews, Elton Prince and Zoey Stark.
However, there are some stars that are reportedly nearing return readiness and could always make a memorable return at the event in Ilja Dragunov, Kiana James and Tama Tonga.

Austin Theory
While his A-Town Down Under tag team partner Grayson Waller has been getting cozy with The New Day – Austin Theory hasn’t seen any recent in-ring action.
Last appearing in a match on WWE TV back in May, Theory was still in action with Waller on Main Event until late last month.
Perhaps awaiting a return to finally go against his tag team partner – who has made it clear he no longer needs to be associated with Theory – there could be a resolution to their storyline.
However it is also possible that Theory is being reserved until after SummerSlam and the WWE Draft 2025 where he could launch his next single’s run – or join another faction.
