WrestleMania 39 will be the first time that Triple H has the opportunity to book the show of shows.
Fans are expecting big things from the first McMahonless ‘Mania, so it stands to reason that The Game will want to pull out all the stops.
There are already rumors swirling about how the event could shape up, with John Cena speculated to appear, Money In The Bank matches being set to make a return, and even a potential Stone Cold Steve Austin bout on the cards.
But what surprises could WWE pull out on the night itself, to make proceedings that extra bit special?
Here are 8 potential surprises we could see at WrestleMania 39.
Sami Wins The Big One

This is simultaneously the most obvious, and one of the least likely outcomes at next year’s WrestleMania.
Sami has been enjoying a well-deserved surge in popularity since joining the Bloodline, which has already seen WWE change some of its plans to accommodate his rising star.
It isn’t inconceivable that he could see himself on the receiving end of a Daniel Bryan-style underdog push, which results in him winning the big one at ‘Mania and ending the Tribal Chief’s already-legendary title reign.
Picture the scene: Sami Zayn, two belts held aloft, with the entire WWE Universe chanting “Ucey” behind him while Cody Rhodes’ head explodes somewhere in the distance.
It’s the kind of booking that would be very dumb, but in a very fun and endearing way.
Long live Sami Uso, the great belt liberator.
Somebody Else Dethrones Roman

At this point the idea of Roman losing his title at all would be a surprise.
With the possible exception of Sami, there isn’t really anybody in the company who currently makes sense to put an end to the Tribal Chief’s seemingly-endless Tribal Chiefdom.
However, there are a few possible contenders that could be built up between now and ‘Mania.
Cody Rhodes’ name has been bandied about ever since he returned to the company at this year’s WrestleMania, and before being put on hiatus by an unfortunate breast explosion he had hinted that he wanted to win the gold to honor his father Dusty Rhodes.
The Rock could easily be the one to teach his cousin a lesson, beating the Big Dog to show him who really rules the Anoa’i Bloodline.
Drew McIntyre has come closer than anybody else to putting Roman’s reign to bed; could he finally pull the trigger in LA for the perfect Hollywood ending?
John Cena Retires & Enters The Hall Of Fame

2022 is likely to mark the first full calendar year that John Cena hasn’t wrestled since his career began.
That, coupled with the rumors that WWE’s own Invisible Man could be having a match at next year’s WrestleMania, could indicate that Cena is finally ready to hang up his jorts.
What better place to give Cena a send-off than in Hollywood, where he has found great success since he stopped wrestling full-time in 2017?
Likewise, what better place to induct Cena into the WWE Hall of Fame than the place he’s probably going to spend the rest of his career?
While it isn’t yet known who Cena will face at ‘Mania, it’s likely he’ll want to go out on his back if this really does end up being his final match.
Let’s hope he goes out against somebody like AJ Styles instead of, say, Logan Paul.
The Paul Brothers Become Tag Team Champions

If Roman Reigns does end up losing his Undisputed WWE Universal Title next April, it would make sense for the rest of the Bloodline to collapse as well.
The Usos have broken the New Day’s record to become the longest-reigning WWE tag team champions of all time, and who better to end that historic reign than… Logan Paul and his brother Jake?
Hey, this is a list of WrestleMania surprises, not WrestleMania surprises that everyone would like.
Imagine the shock on people’s faces when Jake Paul puts down Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion Jey Uso with one of his incredible worked punches, before pinning him for the one, two, three.
In the words of Bully Ray, that’s a spicy meatball.
GUNTHER Dethroned

If Triple H has any sense he’ll tattoo the Intercontinental Championship to GUNTHER’s flesh and let him turn people’s chests into mince meat until the sun goes supernova.
That being said, if he’s going to drop the gold he could do it at a lot worse places than on the grandest stage of them all.
Beating GUNTHER should be treated as a huge deal, and could massively elevate anybody who manages it.
That being said, if there’s one person who’s perfectly positioned to beat GUNTHER based on recent booking, it’s got to be Sheamus.
This would have the added benefit of giving Sheamus his first grand slam win, giving the victory even more significance.
A Money In The Bank Cash In

With reports indicating that WWE may be considering having the Money In The Bank Ladder match return to WrestleMania, it may be time for another WWE classic to return with it: the same-night cash in attempt.
This could also be a great way to dethrone Roman, GUNTHER, or even the Usos, as the winner chooses to pull off a repeat of 2015’s Heist of the Century by making an unexpected cash in shortly after winning.
CM Punk Returns

Earlier this year, if you’d have suggested that CM Punk could return to WWE in time for next year’s WrestleMania, you’d have been rightfully laughed out of the building.
But we live in a crazy era, where apparently anything can happen, so let’s talk about the impossible.
While it isn’t known exactly what Punk’s status with AEW is at the moment, rumors persist that he is on his way out of the company, and if that’s the case WWE may want to snatch him up and re-debut him in front of as many eyes as possible.
Could he come out after the main event to challenge the winner of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship? Could he be an unexpected addition to Money in the Bank? Could he finally get that match against Triple H he’s always wanted?
Just remember, if this sounds crazy to you, just replace “CM Punk” with “Cody Rhodes” and imagine it’s November 2021.
Undertaker Appears

The Streak may be over, but the Dead Man lives still.
It’s always weird whenever ‘Taker doesn’t make an appearance at WrestleMania, and while he probably shouldn’t be wrestling a match any time soon, he should still stick his head in the door every once in a while.
Either as part of a backstage skit where he does something to make Rom Simmons say “Damn!”, or hosting a segment that ends in him Tombstoning Chad Gable, Undertaker’s undead presence would be a welcome addition to proceedings.
Better yet, have him face off with Bray Wyatt, to finally pass the torch to WWE’s new premier spooky dude.
Or you could just let him have a match. Your head may say no, but admit it; something deep down inside you would still tune in.
