8 Matches That Could Main Event WrestleMania 37

We now know that WrestleMania 37 will take place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 – keeping the two-night format from last year.

‘Mania is the date every wrestling fan looks out for and WWE will be keen to put on a great show after a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vince McMahon and co always have plenty of big matches up their sleeves and it will be fascinating to see how this year’s card shapes up in the coming weeks.

With that being said, here are eight matches that could main event the ‘Show of Shows’ this year.

8. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

Sasha Banks and Bayley have arguably been WWE’s most consistent performers since the pandemic began, and it would be fitting to continue their epic rivalry on the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’.

The pair put on a thrilling Hell in a Cell match last year, living up to the high bar set by their awesome encounters in NXT. And this time the roles were reversed, which shows just how great they are at telling stories in the ring.

There is no limit to what Banks and Bayley could do if given the main event slot at the biggest event of the year.

7. Triple H vs. Finn Balor

This match is by far the least realistic on the list, but hear us out. Triple H is one of the biggest names in WWE history – from invading WCW to breaking up Evolution, he’s done it all.

But as he continues to oversee NXT’s expansion (especially amidst rumours of NXT India), it might be time for the 14-time World Champion to finally step away from the ring.

What better way to retire than with a match against NXT Champion Finn Balor at the ‘Show of Shows’?

Balor’s first run in NXT helped put the brand on the map thanks to great matches against the likes of Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe. Now back on the yellow brand, he is a worthy opponent for the ‘Game’s final battle.

6. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey

It’s almost two years since Ronda Rousey stepped foot in a WWE ring. The former UFC star has unfinished business after losing the Raw Women’s Championship to Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35.

While it’s very unlikely Lynch will wrestle at the ‘Show of Shows’ this year, Rousey facing Charlotte Flair makes a lot of sense. After all, Flair also lost her SmackDown Women’s Championship despite never being pinned because of Rousey.

Rousey vs Flair was reportedly the initial plan to main event WrestleMania 35 before Lynch’s huge rise in popularity, and McMahon is well-known for being stubborn.

Plus, the pair have great chemistry if their short but memorable bout at Survivor Series 2018 is anything to go off.

5. Ronda Rousey vs. Asuka

While Flair seems like the most likely opponent should Rousey return to WWE, there is another option which is arguably even more exciting – Asuka.

The ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ continued to shine in 2020, winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and becoming the Raw Women’s Champion.

It would be absolutely fascinating to see Asuka’s brutal striking ability up against Rousey’s signature MMA style.

It’s also a match we’ve never seen before which is always a big plus, especially for an occasion as huge as WrestleMania.

Whether Asuka scores the biggest win of her career or Rousey reclaims the gold, it would certainly get the wrestling world talking.

4. Drew McIntyre vs. Brock Lesnar

Drew McIntyre has come a long way since defeating Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship last year. The former ‘Chosen One’ has done a great job of leading the company during the pandemic, putting on great bouts with Seth Rollins, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns.

McIntyre’s match with Lesnar did exactly what it needed to do – it made the Scotsman look like a star. But the pair are capable of so much more than their last encounter, and it would be great to see them take things up a gear at ‘Mania 37.

Just imagine McIntyre and Lesnar facing off in a Last Man Standing match, or even going to war in Hell in a Cell.

3. Drew McIntyre vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt

If WWE is saving Lesnar’s return for when arenas can sell out to full capacity once again, the Fiend would be a great opponent for McIntyre.

Despite what seem to be the company’s best efforts to do the opposite, Wyatt still feels like a big deal and fans are excited to see how he will return following his insane Firefly Inferno match against Orton.

Some might say the Fiend doesn’t need to be involved in the title picture – and that is a valid point – but WrestleMania is about making moments.

Seeing McIntyre and Wyatt stare down in the main event of ‘Mania 37 would be epic, and it’s probably the biggest title match Raw can pull off right now.

2. Roman Reigns vs. The Rock

This match has been rumoured for a while and is probably the biggest bout WWE can put on right now.

Reigns has been superb since his shocking return at SummerSlam and the Rock (his real-life second cousin) is the perfect opponent to continue the ‘Tribal Chief’ story.

We haven’t seen the ‘People’s Champ’ step in the ring since his memorable clash with John Cena at WrestleMania 29 (not counting his ‘match’ against Erick Rowan three years later).

At this stage, it appears this year’s event will be going ahead with a limited number of fans. Perhaps Vince and co will save the marquee match for a later date, especially with a Hollywood ‘Mania taking place in the not too distant future.

1. Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan

If Reigns vs The Rock doesn’t happen this year, Daniel Bryan is a perfect replacement. Reigns finally feels like the star WWE always wanted him to be and seeing him face off against one of the best underdogs of all time would be fascinating.

Bryan has hinted at taking up a part-time schedule in the near future and there’s no denying he deserves another ‘Mania main event before that happens.

Plus, it’s a great opportunity to put right their disastrous Fastlane 2015 bout (of course, fans were angry with the outcome rather than the match itself).

Whether Reigns continues his reign of dominance or Bryan shocks the world once again, it would be an awesome way to end the ‘Show of Shows’.
