With Roman Reigns officially making his return to WWE television back at SummerSlam, the landscape of SmackDown is set to be shaken up in the Fall.

From new champions to the next chapter in the Bloodline story to returns to debuts, there are a number of changes that could be coming to SmackDown ahead of it’s return to the USA Network.

Here are 7 changes coming to WWE SmackDown soon.

7) AJ Styles Returning To WWE SmackDown

WWE SmackDown star AJ Styles

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles has not appeared on WWE television since he lost to Cody Rhodes back at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow.

It was reported that Styles was set to return to WWE television on last week’s episode of SmackDown, before the decision was changed.

AJ is still expected to return to WWE television soon, with him last wrestling against Naomichi Marufuji in Pro Wrestling NOAH last month.

It could be any week now that we see AJ Styles return to WWE television.

6) Kevin Owens To Betray Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes’ next Undisputed WWE Universal Championship challenger was confirmed for Bash In Berlin on last week’s show, with him defending against Kevin Owens.

The match is currently two popular babyfaces set to face off in a clash between friends, but will it remain that way?

Many believed that Randy Orton would be the one to betray Cody Rhodes, but it could potentially be Owens who sticks the knife in the back of the American Nightmare.

SmackDown is currently a few heels down with Logan Paul seemingly away for a while, and Roman Reigns returning as a face, so the turn could happen as soon as Berlin.

5) Austin Theory Turning Babyface

With Kevin Owens potentially turning heel, another turn has been playing out on television over the past few months.

There have been tensions between former WWE Tag Team Champions Grayson Waller and Austin Theory recently, dating back to before they lost the WWE Tag Team Championship to DIY.

Theory seemingly clocked onto Waller’s treatment of him on last week’s show, when he accepted a match with Kevin Owens on Waller’s behalf, so the end of A-Town Down Under is seemingly near.

How Theory serves as a babyface on SmackDown following the turn will be interesting to see.

4) Jimmy Uso Returning To WWE SmackDown

Roman Reigns’ return to WWE at SummerSlam and subsequent attack on Solo Sikoa was the casus belli for the inevitable Bloodline civil war.

While Roman’s return was the big one, Jimmy Uso is also yet to return to WWE television after he was excommunicated from the group on the SmackDown show following WrestleMania.

Jimmy never left Roman’s side in the Bloodline following his heel turn last year, so him reconciling with Roman won’t be difficult, since he wouldn’t need to do it at all.

Getting to the eventual reunion with Jey on the other hand, that’s what will take some time.

3) New WWE Commentary Team

The commentary teams on WWE television are set to undergo numerous shufflings over the next few months.

With Joe Tessitore joining the company from ESPN, he is set to begin calling WWE Raw alongside Corey Graves and Wade Barrett starting on the September 2 episode of the show, with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee moving over to SmackDown.

Once Raw moves to Netflix however, Michael Cole and Pat McAfee will move back over to Raw, with Tessitore, Barrett and Graves set to call SmackDown once again.

A lot of movement in the booth that will hopefully freshen up the feeling of the shows.

2) Jey Uso & Sami Zayn Moving To SmackDown

With the aforementioned Bloodline Civil War seemingly brewing, there are two important pieces that are currently unable to be a factor in the story.

Jey Uso, and to a lesser extent Sami Zayn, will need to find a way over to SmackDown soon in order to be a part of the story, and the seeds for the switch have seemingly already been planted.

There was a tease regarding an unnamed ‘two of them’ on this week’s episode of Raw by Adam Pearce, which many took as a potential tease for Sami and Jey moving over to SmackDown.

With Randy Orton moving to Raw, at least temporarily, ahead of Bash In Berlin, Sami and Jey moving over to SmackDown would make sense as a trade off.

1) The Lucha Bros To Debut On WWE SmackDown?

AEW stars The Lucha Brothers - Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo, rumored to be joining WWE

With the reunion of the Usos seemingly coming to SmackDown in the coming months, the tag team division may see a number of exciting matchups soon.

Another interesting team to keep an eye on is the duo of Rey Fenix and Penta El Cero Miedo, the Lucha Brothers, who may be on their way to WWE soon.

The contracts of the former AEW World Tag Team Champions are set to expire soon, with the pair seemingly on their way to WWE.

With reports of the two not wanting to compete in NXT, the SmackDown division getting them would be an immediate shot in the arm for the division.
