7 Changes To WWE Backlash 2025

With WWE Backlash 2025 fast approaching, not everything for the St. Louis, Missouri premium live event may come to plan.

While there were some matches and moments that fans expected to see to others that could change directions for stories entirely – WWE Backlash 2025 is sure to make a big impact.

Here are seven changes to WWE Backlash 2025 from what fans may have expected after WrestleMania 41.

7. No Jey Uso

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso

Just because there isn’t a Jey Uso match scheduled for Backlash doesn’t have to mean that there won’t be any appearance from the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Given his popularity with the crowd, perhaps he will appear just to give the people what they want – but he won’t be in action.

Jey Uso continues to feud with Logan Paul but it seems the duo won’t be facing off in St Louis. Despite their back and forth, there is no match set for the pair.

With a rivalry that doesn’t seem close to over, it is entirely likely these two will tangle down the road, potentially at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Money in the Bank, or a bigger stage like SummerSlam.

6. Jeff Cobb Potential Debut

New WWE signing Jeff Cobb

Those anxious to see the debut of former NJPW World Television Champion Jeff Cobb in WWE may not have to wait much longer.

According to the latest reports from PWInsider, Jeff Cobb is set to be in attendance in St Louis for this Saturday’s WWE Backlash 2025 premium live event.

It isn’t known if he is set to appear on-screen or not, but he is reportedly set to join the SmackDown brand according to PW Nexus – making his potential to appear very interesting.

While Cobb could come in as an emissary for The Rock to protect John Cena, his debut plans could also be something entirely unforeseen, but we could get the answer at Backlash.

5. No IYO SKY, Rhea Ripley or Bianca Belair

After putting on a highly regarded match at WrestleMania 41, IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley won’t be facing any ‘backlash’ in St Louis.

Bianca Belair is out of action due to a finger injury she suffered during the Mania match, but IYO and Rhea have instead been facing weekly attacks from NXT stars Roxanne Perez and Giulia.

Perez and Giulia, still billed as NXT talents, have immediate taken it to the top of the women’s division on Raw with their attacks on SKY and Ripley, and it seemed like there may have been a tag team match set up for Backlash.

A tag team match pairing SKY and Ripley to take on Perez and Guilia has been confirmed – but for the WWE Raw after Backlash instead of the PLE itself.

4. Tiffany Stratton vs. Nia Jax Not Happening At Backlash

After Tiffany Stratton was able to retain her WWE Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 41, she would go on to be attacked by Nia Jax on the post-Mania episode of SmackDown.

It seemed that the stage was set for Jax to challenge Stratton at Backlash – since Tiffany won the title from Jax by cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase in the first place – but the story got more complicated.

Instead, the feud now includes Jade Cargill – who recently teamed with Stratton but then made it clear she wanted the title for herself – and Naomi, who is also in the hunt for gold.

There was a #1 contenders match announced for the SmackDown before Backlash featuring Cargill taking on Jax, so in theory there could still be a match at Backlash added, but it isn’t looking likely.

3. Judgment Day To Be Involved In Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta

After winning the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41, Dominik Mysterio faces his first PLE defense when he takes on Penta at WWE Backlash 2025.

However, there aren’t any specific stipulations added to the match regarding those allowed at ringside, presumably paving the way for some potential involvement from the Judgment Day.

It seems any member of the Judgment Day – Finn Balor, JD McDonagh or Carlito – could always get involved and likely will have something to do with the finish, even if it’s to betray Mysterio given the heat between himself and Balor as of late.

This match will certainly be an interesting watch both inside and outside of the ring.

2. Goldberg To Come Back To Haunt GUNTHER

While GUNTHER is set to face off against WWE commentator Pat McAfee at Backlash 2025, the match-up hardly seems like a fair fight. If fans are expecting a clean wrestling match between these two, it is unlikely to occur as rather this could be a moment for the Ring General to add some sports entertaining into his repertoire.

With McAfee’s podcast boys already involved in the storyline via their attempts to help save Pat from GUNTHER, the stage is set for some shenanigans in the match –  but Pat may have a secret weapon.

Recent reports have noted that Goldberg is likely to return to WWE soon after having last been seen having a heated exchange with GUNTHER at Bad Blood.

Perhaps GUNTHER’s disrespect towards Goldberg will come back to haunt him at Backlash with Goldberg popping up to lend Pat McAfee a helping hand, setting up a match with GUNTHER down the line.

1. No Cody Rhodes

In a major departure from events over the past year, there isn’t a scheduled appearance from Cody Rhodes at Backlash 2025.

After losing the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes has disappeared from public view.

Only being spotted occasionally via fan photos, he has yet to make any appearances or comments on WWE TV.

Certainly Cody could always make a surprise appearance at Backlash, but he may stay away a bit longer. Rhodes is advertised on the posters for the WWE Money in the Bank premium live event on June 7.
