While WWE continues to bid farewell to John Cena, there could be some big names set to return to the company soon as well.
From legendary favorites who have been away from WWE for years to others that are making crossover appearances right now – there are some very exciting names that could be returning soon.
Here are six former WWE stars to return soon.
6. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho hasn’t been seen in AEW since April when he declared in an on-screen segment that he wasn’t angry, he was just disappointed but until that changed – it would be best for him to leave. The absence also lined up with some Spring concert dates for Jericho’s band Fozzy, making the initial absence make sense.
But as summer fades into fall and still no sign from Chris Jericho, rumors continue to swirl that the first AEW World Champion may really be departing the company at the end of 2025.
Certainly always a master of reinvention and keeping the audience engaged, it is possible that the months of speculation could be wiped away and Jericho makes a big return to AEW.
But as John Cena departs WWE from his year long retirement tour, the notion that perhaps Jericho could return and assume the role of returning nostalgic hero – perhaps the call to return ‘home’ will be strong.

5. Matt Cardona

Potentially signaling that there could be more moves for him in WWE in the near future, Matt Cardona ended up not being selected for Team TNA at the upcoming special NXT Showdown event.
With current storylines able to amusingly add Cardona – such as Chelsea Green’s recent alliance with Ethan Page – he could definitely make a trip to NXT on a side quest.
However there is still plenty of unfinished business for Cardona on the main roster as well, potentially making for intriguing feuds with foes from the past.
In a very different era of his career now versus the last time he was in WWE, Matt Cardona could follow in the footsteps of Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, returning ‘home’ after striking out elsewhere and finding success.

4. Matt & Jeff Hardy

Being featured ringside at SummerSlam 2025 for the most recent edition of the Tables, Ladder and Chairs match that the duo helped to make famous – the pair received a warm response.
Clearly still massive fan favorites, it has been speculated that when their current deals with TNA Wrestling expire sometime in the next month or so – they could be returning to WWE in the very near future.
Already having appeared on NXT in the past, Matt and Jeff Hardy are scheduled for another big appearance on NXT in the near future.
For the October 7 special edition called Showdown, the TNA Wrestling Tag Team Champion Hardys will take on the NXT Tag Team Champions Dark State (Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin) in a winner take all match for both sets of titles.

3. The Big Show (Paul Wight)

A major deciding factor in whether or not any move could happen soon would be the current status of Wight’s AEW contract.
While it was noted when he signed his initial deal with the company that it was for a “long-term” deal in February 2021, commented he had “a few years left” on his deal in 2023 and confirmed in May 2025 that he was still under contract with AEW.
Although not booked to wrestle, it does seem that Wight is still able to do so – most recently appearing in the notable Street Fight featuring the team of Kota Ibushi, Paul Wight & The Golden Jets (Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega) defeating Brian Cage & The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher & Powerhouse Hobbs).
Potentially able to return to WWE and pick up where he left off in terms of fan favorite status and immediate TV readiness – Wight could find himself in-ring action or on WWE commentary.

2. Indi Hartwell

One former WWE star that could make a return appearance in the very near future is Indi Hartwell.
With the recent invasion of NXT by TNA Wrestling stars, Indi Hartwell has previously made her intentions clear as she continues to rise the ranks in TNA.
Poised to take on NXT’s Kelani Jordan for the TNA Knockouts Championship at Bound For Glory 2025 on October 12 – perhaps there will more appearance from Hartwell in the interim.
Possibly popping up to get the jump on Jordan, Hartwell could definitely engage in some backstage segments with the current roster as well.

1. Saraya (Paige)

With several other Divas Era icons making in-ring returns as of late including Nikki Bella and AJ Lee, it could be that Paige is the next to return.
After making a mark outside of WWE – returning to in-ring competition in AEW including capturing the AEW Women’s World Championship – it could be time to return to her roots.
Publicly commenting that she would be open to returning to her former Paige character, there is plenty of things left for the former Divas Champion to accomplish on the main roster.
Since events like the Women’s Elimination Chamber match or the women’s Royal Rumble didn’t exist when Paige was last in in-ring action, perhaps her return will be reserved for a special surprise.
