On the December 13 edition of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, GUNTHER did the unthinkable when he defeated John Cena by submission in his final match.
After retiring Cena, The Ring General will be looking to continue to ride this momentum right to the top of WWE.
Feeling more powerful and unstoppable than ever, there are a world of directions for GUNTHER to go in coming off the heels of this massive victory when he appears on the December 15 episode of WWE Raw.
Here are six potential WWE Raw plans for GUNTHER after retiring John Cena.
6. Revenge on CM Punk
During night one of WWE SummerSlam, CM Punk defeated GUNTHER to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
GUNTHER took time away following this match due to a nose injury, something many fans speculated was caused during this match, with GUNTHER notably being busted open.
After getting nose surgery, GUNTHER returned and went right back to business by winning the Last Time Is Now Tournament and going on to retire John Cena.
Now that Cena is out of the way, GUNTHER could refocus on getting revenge on the man who – in storyline – cost him a few months of his career.

5. World Heavyweight Title rematch
While GUNTHER could go after CM Punk for some revenge, there is also the fact that “The Best In The World” currently holds the World Heavyweight Title.
However, Punk is currently scheduled to face Bron Breakker for the gold on the January 5, 2026 edition of Monday Night Raw.
With that match set, “The Ring General” could issue a challenge to the winner of this upcoming title bout to reclaim his gold.
GUNTHER challenging either Punk or Breakker at Royal Rumble or WrestleMania could make for an intriguing title clash for 2026.

3. Face off with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes
During WWE SummerSlam Night Two, Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Now that Cena has been retired at the hands of GUNTHER, this could lead to a natural rivalry between two of the legend’s final opponents.
Rhodes and GUNTHER have plenty of history with one another with Cody having eliminated the former World Heavyweight Champion from two Royal Rumble matches and beat him at WWE Crown Jewel 2024.
After putting an end to Cena’s career, GUNTHER could have a logical staredown and faceoff with Rhodes on the December 15 WWE Raw.

3. Set up a first time meeting with Roman Reigns
GUNTHER has been on a meteoric rise ever since being called up to the WWE main roster in 2022.
From setting the record for the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion to two reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, “The Ring General” has been firmly cemented as a main event talent.
Despite all his accomplishments and status, GUNTHER has not faced off with some of the biggest stars on the WWE roster.
Coming off his win over John Cena, GUNTHER could have a tantalizing confrontation with WWE’s next biggest star, Roman Reigns to set up a first time ever showdown between the two.

2. Confrontation with Brock Lesnar
Back at WWE Royal Rumble 2023, GUNTHER had a confrontation with Brock Lesnar during the Men’s Rumble Match.
That led to some rumors circulating that Lesnar and GUNTHER were scheduled to face each other, however this match has yet to come to fruition.
Following his WWE return at SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar feels like a natural future opponent for “The Ring General.”
With both men scoring wins over John Cena in his final few matches, GUNTHER and Brock could be on an inevitable collision course that could be properly set up with a confrontation on the December 15 WWE Raw.

1. Enter the Men’s Royal Rumble Match
GUNTHER has been announced for the December 15 edition of WWE Raw, where he will likely brag about his win over John Cena in his final match.
Looking to continue his huge momentum from that win, it would make sense for the former World Heavyweight Champion to seek out his next accomplishment or milestone.
While he could just challenge for his rematch at the title, GUNTHER could look to add another accolade to his impressive resumé.
GUNTHER becoming the first man to enter the Men’s Royal Rumble Match for next year’s titular event would set the standard for that huge match early before the calendar even changes to 2026.
